In a Republic, actually
‘There is a “real and very, very present” threat to the US from a shadowy collection of rightwing leaders, a new book on the movement behind Donald Trump warns, with the aim being “an end to pluralistic democracy”.

Katherine Stewart, a journalist who specializes in the religious right, spent years researching the money and influence that has aided and encouraged tens of millions of Americans in their worship at the throne of Trump.

The result is Money, Lies and God: Inside the Movement to Destroy American Democracy, which sees Stewart explore the “antidemocratic movement” – an unholy mix of Christian nationalists, billionaire oligarchs and conservative ideologues who have seized control of the Republican party, and aim to fundamentally change the US.

“Money is a huge part of the story, meaning that huge concentrations of wealth have destabilized the political system. Second, lies, or conscious disinformation, is a huge feature of this movement. And third God, because the most important ideological framework for the largest part of this movement is Christian nationalism,” Stewart said.

In the book, Stewart details how Republicans have been held hostage by the antidemocratic movement, something that “came together long before Donald Trump descended on a golden escalator in 2015 to announce his candidacy for president”.’

“…long before Donald Trump descended on a golden escalator…”

Exactly.

Trump is the product of the fascist, reactionary right – fearful of positive, beneficial change, diversity, inclusion, and expressions of individual liberty; seeking to compel conformity and silence dissent through the tyranny of Republican minority rule.

She should focus on both sides because the West has fascists on both sides, both want big government, big policing but they just want to set the agenda. Little difference between the two I assure you.

This is a problem with much of society, no self awareness and denial is the impulse. People say "well better to never say sorry and admit fault", but I view that as a weakness of character. It's G-d syndrome.

Better to acknowledge imperfections and look to address them. Society will continue its slide as long as we abandon these important principles.

I suppose you never heard of George Soros. A bit hypocritical of you to complain about the rich after you've genuflected to the throne of Soros for the past 8 years.

Preying on the stupidity of the Democratic parties base. Being told if you don't believe or vote a certain way we are going to lose something that the US has never been.

This country has always been a Constitutional Republic. I can't completely blame simpletons like yourself for falling for this crap. The education system is garbage.

Trump won on issues not money

Reactionary nihilism

Hey, I'm not sure what impresses me more, that you got 8 out of 8 FUs from disinterested readers laughing at you, or the fact that a brainless twit like you even knows big boy words like the above!

But then, it don't take much to copy and paste.

What you call "democracy" is nothing little more than your own little liberal bubble. Trump is standing there with the needle.

Yeah, right. Everyone with 3 mil is an oligarch.

This country has always been a Constitutional Republic.

And apparently a large portion of its population has always had an aversion to dictionaries. Oh well, that's the effect of the American education system I guess, most rightards don't know their arse from a hole in the ground, let alone the meaning of words.

Democracy is a system of government in which people choose their rulers by voting for them in elections.
