I have absolutely no idea how old humanity is. Some experts say 200,000 years for the latest model. Meh, whatever! I know we have been through many ages since our DNA was formed. I’m talking millions of years here. Let’s see, first there was the Paleolithic Age (Old Stone Age), 2.6 million years -> ~10,000 BCE. It used to be BC, “before Christ”. Today it’s BCE, “before the common era”. Clever? You bet! They got to keep two letters. We had stone tools, fire, and early graffiti on cave walls. Not sure about language; mostly grunts and hand gestures, I guess. I’m going to go out on a limb like early humans did and say when you saw something 2.6 million years ago, it was really what you saw. It was not like today when you can’t be sure of anything you see or hear.
Let’s get back to those ages. Next came the Neolithic Age (New Stone Age), 10,000 BCE-> ~4,500 BCE. There’s nothing like new stones, is there? We got agriculture, domesticated animals, and early settlements. There was no need to run those wooly mammoths over cliffs anymore because we could grow our own supper! This was probably when human populations started to populate in earnest.
Then came the Chalcolithic/ Copper Age, 4.500 BCE -> ~3,300 BCE. We fashioned our tools from metal now on our way to the Bronze Age -> ~3,300 BCE-> ~1,200 BCE, then the Iron AGE -> ~ 1,200 BCE -> ~ 500 CE, where we got trade, larger cities and weapons made from iron. Killing got off the ground now like never before and frankly; we have not looked back.
While this was going on we entered Classical Antiquity ~800 BC -> 500 CE with Greece, Rome, Persia, and China. We very quickly developed philosophy, politics, engineering, and mathematics.
Then we got progressed to the Middle Ages (Medieval Period), 5th-> 15th centuries where we got religion, educational institutions, and different types of architecture. You know, big stuff.
Then we had a Renaissance 14th-> 17th century with the appearance of science, art and the printing press, so more people had some idea of what was happening if they were interested—most were not.
From there it was on to the Scientific Revolution 16th-> 18th century, and we got physics, biology, chemistry and astronomy. After human overlords stopped burning scientists and astronomers at stake, we got to modern living in a relatively modern sense.
This was when we entered the Enlightenment Period -> 17th -> 18th century, and we got philosophy, politics and rationalism.
After that came the Industrial Revolution 18th-> 20th century with steam power, water power, internal combustion engines, factories, mass production, railroads, great ships, and urbanization. Was that enough? Hell, no!
fter our last great war, we entered the Space Age and got atomic bombs, satellites, intercontinental ballistic missiles, space exploration, laboratory created viruses, and global communication systems. Was that enough? Nope.
Now we are in the final stages of the Information Age with computers, cell phones, and now Artificial Intelligence. And this is why you cannot trust anything, even your own eyes and ears. If you want to get along in this current human age do not believe anything you see or hear.
End— history lesson.
