Why would people in this caravan want to trade living in one authoritarian regime for living in another? Has nothing to do with capitalism and socialism.
Has to do with the people running the country. These people will still face persecution in an authoritarian country. The haves and the have nots.
VP Harris came the closest to addressing it the other day when she blamed in part our shitty policy toward these countries in Latin America for driving the exodus.
You're posing the simple question your alt-right media sources want you to focus on. Not the larger picture of our policies over the last few decades that actually contribute to people wanting to come here.

. . . the only way to make socialism work, when you do not have the majority of the population on board, is by using authoritarianism.

Hell, just the other day, Biff posted a thread trying to convince the forum that getting rid of the filibuster was a good thing.

If you can't even get 60 votes for something in the Senate? Then you don't have the majority of the population on your side, or even enough support to implement your collectivist agenda. . . .

. . IOW? Venezuela does seem to be the better option.

. . . to your point about the establishment subverting and destroying the institutional stability of governments in the south? Yes, you have a good point.

However. . You need to prove that those numbers are a result of that destabilization, and not just folks looking for a better life.

Uh, what? Maybe I misunderstood, I do that sometimes. But I don't think the majority of the population in Venezuela is on-board with their gov't, IMHO probably even less that we are here. Sooo, how is Venezuela a better option?
