If you can't see how ridiculous the statement is that people cannot survive without cars actually is that's your problem.
And FYI I never mentioned getting rid of cars once.
Then why did you say people have survived without cars.
Well that's what AOC put in her plan. Getting rid of cars, air-travel, HVAC systems.
What people like AOC are doing is pushing a plan that will destroy our economy and kill hundreds of thousands of people if it's implemented.
Wow, get rid of MOST fossil fueled cars. We are in the process of doing that now. It's already being done with Buses and Trucks will be next. As for short haul air traffic, High Speed Rail is just as fast when you figure in all the unnecessary time you spend actually getting there in an Aircraft. I used the difference of an electric car or bus going for 240 miles from Grand Junction, Colorado at 4 hours versus going by air for 3 1/2 hours. Is that 30 minutes really worth it when you figure the cost of the drive for the electric car at about 10 bucks or the electric bus at 58 bucks versus 149 for the Aircraft? Trust me, the scenery is much nicer closer to the ground.
Now all you have to do is figure out a way of creating electricity to charge up all of these electric cars without using fossil fuels and without causing hazardous waste with all of the batteries that will be depleted and thrown away in a few years.
Also figure out a way of doing this without costing consumers thousands of dollars they can't afford thanks to all of the massive taxes your plan will impose on them.
I know....let's bring millions of brown impoverished people here from all over the world to suck up all of our Social Security and turn us into Venezuela. Or how about make sure that Thanos has all six of the infinity stones so all he has to do is snap his fingers and half of the people on the planet vaporize instantaneously.
Problem solved.
Wow, I haven't seen this much rocket powered goal post moving and strawman in such a short couple of paragraphs in a very long time.
I'm just pointing out the absurdity of your Green New Deal program. I can see attempting to phase in electric powered vehicles by developing new energy sources over decades. But taking fossil fueled vehicles off the road immediately because we only have a few years to live is BS and you know it.
No change comes fast. For instance, how long did it take to get the steam powered cars off the road? The electric went first although in 1903, the Electric was the #2 car on the road. It took from 1908 to 1925 to finally get the Steam out of the viable picture. In 1903, the #1 Auto powered car was the Diesel. At the 1903 World Auto Show in Chicago, there were tons of Diesel, Electric, a few steam and one new upstart, a gasoline powered engine. Henry Ford changed all that. But what about the origin of the engine that was shown?
Here is a weird tidbit of info. The Wright Brothers weren't known for an Aircraft. There were much, much better and danged sight safer gliders out there. What they really invented was the decent propeller and the smallest, lightest and most powerful engine for it's size in weight ever made. Almost every thing else is either no longer used or was taken from other inventors no matter what all the Copyright Lawsuits tried to prove. They made their first engine in 1902 and a car with on of those surfaced in the Chicago show in 1903. The problem it had was that the other cars were refined and it was basically a cart with an engine that was a throwback to something out of the 1880s in basic carriage design. But the engine went on. Henry Ford used that idea for his Model T and we all know how that went.
Meanwhile, they stopped almost all research and development on the Electric. It didn't surface until the 1990s again. It took the gas powered car to completely dominate from about 1880 to 1925. That is 45 years. The Electric, Steam and Diesel didn't die so quickly. So, for electric, we start at after 1990 and count 45 years forward to 2035. Using history, that is how long the Gas and Diesel powered cars have left. AT some point, it will end up being 50/50 and we are going to reach that by 2025. Norway has already reached well over that as has other countries. By 2025, China will have nothing but electric private cars. The countries that make it a National Effort will either do it first or are already doing it. The rest of us MUST follow.
This includes the infrastructure. And I am seeing that infrastructure being installed even in this small metro area in a very serious way. One of the major electric refueling stations here is Sams. And that is done by the Walmart Corporation, not the Government. They have about 10 individual charging stations already. The Electric Vehicle Industry is pushing for Corridors along the Interstates. All of a sudden, I can drive from here to at least two major cities in the newly released electric cars non stop. Plus, along the way, there are also some Charging Stations just in case.
You are saying that we can't do it "RIGHT NOW". Newsflash: Right now is Right now.
