The real story here is that we require our police officers to be armed when they are working. Part of the duty of a cop is to shoot people when they need to be shot. They are trained to do exactly that, and the people have traditionally trusted the judgment of the police officer when they do their duty and cap someone's worthless behind.

If you don't want to have police shootings, tell the police to leave their weapons at home. Ban them from packing heat, remove this duty of shooting people when needed from their official Job Description.
