I’d say it was made a political issue by the founders when they spelled out the 2nd amendment for us.
And that’s where it slept, undisturbed until government came encroaching on it.
The current sides on it are conservatives who want that right respected and left alone, and liberals who are constantly attacking it and trying (successfully over time) to restrict and diminish it.

I believe there are always more than one side to any issue. I believe that no man, no political party, and no ideological group is ever 100% wrong. Nor are then ever 100% right.

For police reform I often mention the Aircraft Accident Investigations. We can learn. We can learn if we look at all the little things. We can learn how to minimize events where lives are lost. I never have. And probably never will object to the police killing or even shooting someone who was armed and a threat. In other words, the gun was in hand. However I believe we can learn from those events. Improve training. Improve policies. Improve safety for everyone.

When all we do is examine it to try and fit it into legal or illegal, we do not learn anything. We do not prevent the next tragedy.

I do not believe anyone deserves to die. I believe it is often necessary. And always regrettable when someone dies by violence.

The debate has been hijacked. Any reform is denounced as desiring only to want more dead cops. However like the Camera Study I mentioned earlier it led to less violence and that means that there is less risk for cops too. Less risk they will be injured or killed. If we are working to protect cops, then shouldn’t we figure out how to help them be safer?

A Norwegian Prison has a recidivism rate far below ours. In fact the numbers are about opposite. The people who commit further crimes are about what percentage of our convicts don’t commit further crimes. Obviously our system can be improved. However that discussion never gets off the ground. Conventional wisdom calls on more severe punishment. It hasn’t worked yet. But if we double down it will. The people advocating for Socialism ignore the same historical proofs. It doesn’t work. But we have to keep trying.

Nobody is right all the time. Nobody is wrong. There are always alternatives. And we owe it to our citizens not to reject them out of hand.

As I read the first article I could not help but remember how this played out before. California was an open carry state. Until the Black Panthers started carrying openly and it was banned almost immediately.

Now the Protesters are creating their own databases and programs to identify cops with blacked out uniforms. We are told this is to protect the identity of the cops from retaliation. It also makes it impossible to identify a cop who is using excessive force or acting recklessly.

Curiously. When Body Camera studies were conducted. Officers wearing body cameras were less than half as likely to use force. The Police advocates said that the camera scared the people into complying. The detractors said that the cops were afraid of being exposed.

I said I did not care. I wanted the reduction. If you are a cop and can manage the situation without force it is a win win. Because there is less chance of the citizen being injured. And less chance of the cop being injured.

And don’t go pretending you care when the cops are killed. More than half of the police deaths this year have been from COVID. And I am not one of those screaming masks are fascist. Herd Immunity. Only the weak will die and good riddance. So when you are howling that the cops are at risk from the lack of COVID precautions get with me.

I voted for Trump in 2016. I am not voting for anyone this year. Both parties are wrong. Both candidates are terrible. And the argument that I have to choose between the lesser of two evils is idiotic. It would be like requiring you to choose. Which of your two children will die? And that is how I feel. Either way we go there is doom.

Guns are in the top ten. But a lot of issues that Trump suffers under are too. You assume that guns are the single issue that people will vote for. One lesson I have learned is it is never one thing.

People desperate to keep their homes and want that stimulus check will vote against Trump. His decision to walk away from the negotiations until after the election is a huge middle finger to the desperate that they do not matter.

People who had friends and family die from Covid see a huge rules for me but not for thee with Trump getting the special treatment unavailable to their loved ones. So screw Trump.

You see. There are other issues in their lives besides guns. Do you think their gun collection is going to be safe while they live in their car?

You offer the observation as if the only issue was guns. It isn’t. It is not by a long shot. And on most of those issues Trump comes off as a petulant child unable to make up his mind. We can’t wait to get Amy on the Supreme Court. That matters. Helping the average citizen? Fuck them. They can wait.

We are going to have a huge event to celebrate Trump. People get sick? Fuck them. COVID is a hoax. And to prove it I am getting a treatment that you can’t get. So suck it bitches.

I spoke to a Black Woman yesterday who mentioned we should vote. I said no. She asked why and I told her that both the candidates were full of it. She said there were other questions. I told her that the last person who left Washington Broke was Harry Truman. Everyone else leaves wealthy. Congressmen and Senators. And I refuse to even consider the idea that people will spend hundreds of millions of dollars to get a job paying two hundred grand a year.

I wished her a good day. And I honestly wish everyone well. But I personally will not pick between evil. No matter what issue is threatened.

My Father asked me the question once. Would you rather be crushed under a ton of feather or lead? I realized there was no answer. Either one would kill you. That is where we are. Feathers or lead. Either way we are doomed.
