The Cuban government has rejected a request from the U.S. Embassy in Havana to import diesel fuel to power the diplomatic mission’s generators. The embassy has been using generators for the past year and a half during frequent power outages, the WP notes. According to a source familiar with the situation, it is impossible to purchase fuel without the approval of the Cuban authorities. Staff members are increasingly working remotely.

On March 13, Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel announced the start of negotiations with the United States.
