Protectionism for call centers

And bring jobs to the U.S. - but hey, that's not what's really important.

How will this bring jobs to the U.S.?

er... because they'll have to hire U.S. workers to man call centers which will then have to be in this country.

So make it a buck a call. Make it $10. Make it so completely cost prohibitive that no company could possibly have any economic benefit by operating overseas. Or just outlaw it.

Unless the point is for the government to get a little of the action. No parasite is stupid enough to kill its host, including the governement.

Ireland lowered corporate tax rates years ago which cause growth to explode. However, the top tax rate on personal income is high and they imposed a new income levy last year. As a result, an increasing number of high-net-worth people are leaving.

Isn't that interesting? Raise taxes and people (and companies) move operations offshore.

yea.. kinda like we saw our own housing market crash too, eh? You people ALWAYS have excuses for the failure of your economic opinion. without fail.

 Isn't that special. You reply with something that has nothing to do with what we're talking about in this thread and then you say I'm making excuses. :cuckoo:

HA!

Yea! there sure aren't any correlations to be drawn from the common clusterfuck administered by free market capitalista policies and the ECONOMICS GONE DOWN IN FLAMES SHORTLY THEREAFTER.

poor guy. no wonder you find yourself dancing around the obvious.

It's actually quite simple. It will still cost less than having them here.

Well, that was definitely simple...simple minded

At 0.25 a call, overseas call centers will be more expensive. They sell for less than that.

And what makes you think they'll bring the call centers back over here where they have to pay employees more and deal with more regulation, rather than moving their entire operation overseas where they can avoid this tax and pay more employees less?

the knowledge that they are one federal policy away from being branded a foreign company who risks being taxed for the benefit of trading their services in the US. Do you think American's can't pick up a fucking phone call without those specific companies willing to outsource rather than understand who the population is that provides their market?

Again, they want to operate in india then let them take their business TO india. America can invest in America for a change.

I highly doubt it. 25¢ is not that much. If you have a call center employee in India, taking even 100 calls a day, which is unlikely, that is only an extra $25 a day. Times seven it's an extra $175 a week. They get paid about a tenth of what we make here, in American dollars. It will still be incredibly less expensive to have them over there.

I guess it's a good thing that the premise of being an American doesn't revolve around lowering the cost of a particular business to operate like cancer among commerce, eh? Sure, it's cheaper to pay sweatshop laborers and slaves than it is to support the very America which buys the products. No shit, brainiac. But, apparently, some of us are more concerned with standards of living here AND there to give a shit about just how bottom dollar cheap wal mart shopping can get. Good to know that you have a full view from where your stupidity blossoms.

Here's the thing. Right now, these call centers charge their customers less than 25 cents per call. If they just charge enough to cover the tax (ie 25 cents per call) their price will be higher than every single one of their competitors.

ANd an extra $175 per MONTH per EMPLOYEE adds up to millions of dollars, Not sure what kind of math you use, but when something cost about 10 cents per unit, a 25 cents per unit increase is enormous
