In my day the only male teachers that didn't wear suit and tie where the shop teachers and lab teachers, and they had shirt and tie under their shop and lab aprons.

Thank god those days are over. A stuffy suit is uncomfortable. A person is not at their best wearing one.

Some of our Jewish students wore suit and tie to classes. One particularly tall Jewish fellow looked more like a teacher than the teacher did.
