President Trump orders Army Corps of Engineers to open California dams and release the water

Shasta Dam (in Far Northern CA) is part of the Federal Shasta-Trinity federal water project. After it was finished, John F. Kennedy came and 'blessed' it.

An old neighbor of mine was an engineer there and he told me that the Feds and the State are responsible for water releases in order to maintain the flow of water South and ensure Shasta Lake (created by the dam) was not drawn down too far. I live hear and have seen the Sacramento River fluctuate quite a bit. Many homes on the river get their back yards flooded every season with large water releases. Shasta Lake has been down so far that one can see an old bridge that was submerged when the dam was created.

Reservoirs down stream used to keep a steady flow but, environmentalists in CA have destroyed many of them for environmental reasons. Add to that another environmental regulation where water is shunted back to the ocean in order to save a fish. This has caused farmers in the Central Valley to lose their allotment of water. Newer regulations also have prohibited some farmers from growing on all their land. Democrat policies and Newsom have been a disaster to agriculture in CA.
I have worked on Highway 5 close to Lake Shasta and have seen it full and way down as you describe. CA has this devotion to the Ocean so a lot of water is wasted there. In more recent years, the lake that had dried up called Lake Tulare got going again. I came to Idaho from CA in 2019. This state has a good handle on water. Lake Shasta is excellent as far as I know.

Hilarious

Your understanding of the issue is so simplistic that I wonder how you learned to drive.

Olde man, stick to the Shitler! release of water now which he thinks flows to SoCal.

Fucking shit bob. You're an olde stupid man.

Federal water from California goes to farmers, cities, and towns in the San Joaquin Valley and Southern California. The Central Valley Project (CVP) and State Water Project (SWP) are the two federal systems that deliver water from Northern California to the south.

Defying California bureaucrats, President Trump ordered the US Army Corps of Engineers to release 5.2 billion gallons of water being held behind two dams, down a river channel toward farmlands in the San Joaquin Valley. This came after he vowed during a visit to Los Angeles last week to “open up the valves and pumps” in California to deliver more water.

More promises made, promises kept.

Acting on Trump’s order, federal officials opened up two California dams

"The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has dramatically increased the amount of water flowing from two dams in Tulare County, sending massive flows down a river channel toward farmlands in the San Joaquin Valley.

Federal records show that water releases from Terminus Dam at Lake Kaweah and Schafer Dam at Lake Success jumped early Friday morning.

That was four days after President Trump said on social media that the U.S. military had “entered” California and “TURNED ON THE WATER.” Trump also vowed during a visit to Los Angeles last week to “open up the valves and pumps” in California to deliver more water."

When you insult, you fail. Try to stop failing.

Water issues in Idaho include
  • Ground water quality degradation in specific areas, which negatively impacts water quality and potentially threatens domestic water supplies, aquaculture, agriculture, mining, industrial, and other ground water beneficial uses.
  • Severe drought in more than half of Idaho, with water shortages expected in every basin in southern Idaho.
  • Declining groundwater quality in one specific part of Idaho, serving nearly 300,000 residents, due to increasing levels of pollutants like nitrogen and phosphorus caused by manure and fertilizer.
  • Climate change, temperature change, soil erosion, recreational needs, species issues, and increased storage needs are also increasing issues.

California started going down when the Sierra Club banned logging on Federal land because of the Spotted Owl. From there, the environmentalists started closing BLM land to the public and generally prohibited cleaning up forests with large fuel loads. Their solution was to just let in burn. They have way to much power and today, one cannot do hardly any improvements without going through a gauntlet of prohibitive environmental regulations. I used to deal with the local Shasta building dept and one day when I was at the building dept. (now called 'resource management') I saw a big, thick bible looking book on he counter. Thousands of pages bound. I asked what it was and they said 'Oh that's an environmental impact study for a new housing development. Next to that there was a smaller tome that was a 'traffic study' for the same development. Unfortunately, due to all that 'red tape' the project never got off the ground.

“Consistent with the direction in the Executive Order on Emergency Measures to Provide Water Resources in California, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is releasing water from Terminus Dam at Lake Kaweah and Schafer Dam at Success Lake to ensure California has water available to respond to the wildfires,” wrote Gene Pawlik, a supervising public affairs specialist in the Army Corps’ Washington, D.C. office.

The quality of Idaho’s ground water affects nearly everyone in the state. Although Idaho’s ground water quality is generally good, monitoring shows that water has been significantly degraded in specific areas. This localized degradation negatively impacts water quality and potentially threatens domestic water supplies, aquaculture, agriculture, mining, industrial, and other ground water beneficial uses. Three more commonly found constituents in Idaho’s ground water include nitrate, arsenic, and uranium.”

Most citizens only know of the words Environmental impact report.
I sold land to a contractor in the BAY Area and he had to get one done. It was shocking at how thick and costly it was. I have no figures but suspect that the EPA has been the death to many projects as you suggest.

Also, from bob's posted article (which he didn't read apparently).

"An unscheduled release of water at this time of year, when there is little demand for irrigation water and a snowpack that is below average, poses grave threats to a reliable water supply this year," Costa wrote. "This could increase the cost of water for farmers for this crop year exponentially due to dry conditions anticipated."

Yeah, the smog during republic control of the state was so much better.

I read that. Why complain when you do the same thing? Notice the paper did not quote a single republican politician. It is a false flag. The pair of dams are helping citizens of CA who also own that water. But you want them to not get any.

Yeah, the smog during republic control of the state was so much better.
We got rid of most smog when Republicans were our Governors.

Republicans really went at smog but guess what else we did? We got the SF Bay cleaned up. Democrat used the bay for a toilet.

How is the water helping them bob.

The smog was reduced because the people of CA moved left and elected a legislator that pushed republic governors to act.

The Corp of Engi ers restarted the pumps once the scheduled maintenance was done.

Trump jumped out in front and pretended he hasd something to do with it.
Hey guys, look. Trump took control of the crisis with a simple common-sense solution. If you aren't going to have decency enough to show gratitude, the very least you leftwingers can do admit "Hey. Our side messed up. What the hell were we thinking? Trump did the job. Let's learn from this".

If you guys could only do this, you'd be respected a lot more.
