In a Republic, actually
ā€˜Former President Barack Obama on Thursday criticized media companies for buckling under the Trump administration’s censorship demands. His comments follow the decision by Disney-owned ABC to sideline late-night host Jimmy Kimmel for a joke about... Donald Trump’s response to the death of bigoted activist Charlie Kirk.

ā€œAfter years of complaining about cancel culture, the current administration has taken it to a new and dangerous level by routinely threatening regulatory action against media companies unless they muzzle or fire reporters and commentators it doesn’t like,ā€ Obama wrote on Bluesky Thursday.

Referring specifically to Kimmel’s indefinite suspension, Obama added, ā€œThis is precisely the kind of government coercion that the First Amendment was designed to prevent — and media companies need to start standing up rather than capitulating to it.ā€ā€™

The right spent years lying about ā€˜cancel culture’ – conservatives are infamous for their hypocrisy.

"There are several key distinctions between then and now."

"Obama didn't tweet out doctored pro wrestling GIFs or obsessively rail about "fake news" and ratings."

"Obama's anger at Fox News was justified. In January 2007, Fox & Friends made the false claim that Obama had attended an Islamic school in Indonesia."

"Two months later, a Democratic debate that was to have been hosted by Fox News was cancelled after the network's chairman, Roger Ailes, deliberately confused Obama's name with that of al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden, telling media executives in a speech, "It's true that Barack Obama is on the move.""

"Not so, Obama countered. "I've got one television station entirely devoted to attacking my administration.""

The difference being.... HUGE. Obama was fighting with Fox News. He said stuff, they said stuff.

Trump is threatening to take away the license of a media company because he doesn't like it.

There's a line and Trump's fat ass is so far over that line, it's turning into fascism.

"Silly Jimmy Kimmel. He should have just called for all homeless people to be killed and he'd still have a job."

The difference is that excalibur would approve of that, so that's fair free speech.

President Obama spewed that marriage was between a man and a woman. A couple of years later the White House was outfitted in rainbow lights. The inner city African American gangs cheered that on.

Obama targeted reporters and had the FBI hack their laptops. He has always been a fraud. He had the chance to be great uniter but instead divided the country along race. He just never had the character of a great man. Hes an empty suit and partisan racist.

Liberals are starting to choke on the standards, and precedents they set.
