Zone1 Posturing on "Socialism"

House Passes Resolution Denouncing ‘Horrors of Socialism’ Security,

Today's resolution condemning "socialism" should have prompted one of our Leftist legislators (legislatrixes?) to say a few words in favor of legislation and programs that beneficially incorporate principles of socialism in our society. Because the fact is that Capitalism, successful as it is in general, produces not only fabulous wealth but also abject poverty, and if it were not for some of these "socialist" programs our overall society would be far worse for it. Indeed, it is likely that we would have had some sort of armed insurrection or civil war to fight the excesses of Capitalism.

I'm thinking of,
  • Social Security,
  • Medicare,
  • Collective bargaining (facilitated by the National Labor Relations Act),
  • Welfare,
  • SNAP,
  • Section 8 housing,
  • Unemployment compensation,
  • ACA.
To pretend that we, as a society, utterly reject socialism is just ignorant. Further, there is nothing preventing States and local government from creating programs that incorporate principles of socialism, such as a couple States have done with healthcare.

True Socialism, of course, dictates that the Sovereign must own all property and the means of production, and "we" are got going there in any living person's lifetime, but socializing the correction of some of society's problems can be a good idea.
I’m surprised you would endorse any of those listed. With the exception of collective bargaining laws, the rest create the poverty you suggest they alleviate. Perfect examples of why socialism at any level is bad.

My way or the highway is never the best solution.
Working together as best as humans are able,
For all AMERICANS.

Stats I've seen show the United States is consistently one of the most philanthropic countries annually. They are often first or in the top five.

This source shows charitable giving by individuals as a % of GDP. U.S. is 1.44%. New Zealand is second at .79%.

The US relies on philanthropy because its social safety net is poor. We have more kids in poverty than our peers, an higher infant mortality rate, a higher maternal mortality rate, lower social mobility (poor people become an average wage earner) than any of our peers.

This is an indictment, not a brag.

Philanthropy is great because people with money love to give. This is despite wasteful taxes and entitlement that enables people. Stop regulating and taxing so much and watch giving go even higher. People are less likely to give when leeches demand it.

If people with money lover to give then paying higher taxes for social welfare is rewarding then.

Any Idea when MAGA Mikey is gonna schedule a vote condemning fascism? I can't seem to find it on the congressional calendar.
Denouncing socialism does that. Fascism is a form of socialism.

Fascism is a form of socialism.
Fascism is an open terrorist dictatorship of the most reactionary, most chauvinistic, most imperialist elements of finance capital...
Fascism is not a superclass power, nor is it the power of the petty bourgeoisie or the lumpenproletariat over finance capital.
Fascism is the power of finance capital itself. It is the organization of terrorist reprisals against the working class and the revolutionary section of the peasantry and intelligentsia.
Fascism in foreign policy is chauvinism in its crudest form, cultivating zoological hatred of other peoples.(с)
Georgi Dimitrov.

Words matter Ringo.

The US establishment, the Israel establishment, and indeed, the global establishment like to call everything "terrorism," these days.

However, most of the stuff they call "terrorism," is not. Terrorism is political violence, undeclared war, (by non-state actors,) waged against innocent civilians for the purpose of convincing those populations to change their political views.

Narco-Terrorism is not a thing.

Terrorist dictatorships are not a thing either.

The national socialists obtained power by legal means, which is more than can be said for the bolsheviks.

Quoting a communist who took part in the great purge does nothing for you. He was no better than Hitler.
