Post office says what?

I hate the rate increases but you can't blame the the USPO for it. Bottom line is that the USPO is the only federal bureaucracy that produces anything but bullshit. I wish the CIA (with their secret budget) could work as efficiently as the Post Office.
if you worked for them you would have a different opinion about how efficient they are with money...they are pretty bad....

But those postal workers with routes they walk cannot be forced to work in dangerous heat.

"Neither rain, nor snow, nor heat shall keep these these postal workers from their appointed rounds."

-- US Postal Service motto

Yeah right. The USPO continued to deliver mail while the CIA lost track of every freaking important event in modern U.S history including 9-11.

even though this slogan is associated with the United States Postal Service, it is not an official motto......it was put on the entrance to the James Farley Post Office in New York City, which was completed in 1914 by the architects....

easier said than done....
Why?

My mom had walk-up delivery as did every house on the street and all of them could have a curb mailbox out in front of their homes.

Rural routes in subdivisions with private roads have gone to gang mailboxes, same with apartment buildings. There is zero reason for walk-up mail delivery anymore.

who will pay for all that?...

who will pay for all that?...
It's up to the homeowner to pay for the box.....Gang boxes are also paid for by the customer (say a homeowner asso) or they can drag their ass to the PO and buy a PO box there.

The same guy that walks up to the porch is driving a truck to get there.

What, you think that they walk from the PO?

i delivered mail 33 years ....i have been through your scenario many a time....good luck getting people to pay for a box....

No offence but you sound quite ignorant as to the workings of the PO.
lol....how long did you work there?......first off no one wants to pay for their box....secondly the associations and the builders choose if they get NBUs or curb side or sidewalk side or door delivery....and they will not pay for them ....and most HOA's wont let them change.....like i said i have dealt with this way more than you have.....so no offense but you have no idea of the workings of the place...

Then they need to run a tighter ship.

the PO doesn't control what you are talking about....deliveries are set up according to what the builders put in....if its walking its walking....NBU's at the end of the street are great for the carrier not so great for many people...

The stamp is so it can be delivered .

15th post
I haven't seen the rule referenced. But it makes sense.

If the postal workers can be in an air conditioned vehicle, they can work through any heat.

But those postal workers with routes they walk cannot be forced to work in dangerous heat.

Many mail trucks have no air conditioning.

they will never have AC in their trucks....not in them long enough....and if a carrier feels they cant do the route because of heat, they will just send a sub out or someone who wants the OT...

The new trucks DO have A/C.

is this a walking route?.....
Harry yes and it’s not an easy one.
It’s a slope going down to a creek although sidewalks .
We have a real good new young guy carrier who comes early because walking up street into the sun from 1pm on is hellish. I give them water, either a small bottle frozen or a chilled big one. Hot coffee when cold and sometimes they sit briefly in the chair I have under a tree near the mailbox
And per my topic we did get mail delivered around 8pm last night. The new young guy was on vacation but he was back today delivering at 10am like he does.
Thanks for your insightful info

I have no problem with the increases. I think it just went up to $0.73 for a regular letter.

Think about it. The USPS will pick up a sealed letter from your house, and carry it across the country to an exact address. Not a copy or facsimile, but the actual papers. And will do it for less than $1.

That is a helluva deal.
