The anti-gun logic goes....people are killed by AR-15 rifles....we must ban AR-15 rifles....

So...using that kind of insane logic....pools kill more people....a lot more people.....than AR-15 rifles each and every year...therefore...we need to ban pools.....

People killed by pools every year? Over 3,500

No One Really Needs to Have a Pool in Their Yard - The Truth About Guns

In the news recently, was another celebrity toddler drowning. As horrible as that is, this tragedy was one of over 3500 unintentional drownings that occur yearly in the U.S. , not counting boating accidents. Skier Bode Miller‘s family experienced a similar heartache just last year.

Why am I bringing up these horrible toddler deaths on a gun page? Because child death by drowning is a far bigger problem than child death by firearms. In fact as the CDC itself states: “Drowning is responsible for more deaths among children 1-4 than any other cause except congenital anomalies (birth defects). Among those 1-14, fatal drowning remains the second-leading cause of unintentional injury-related death behind motor vehicle crashes.”

Yet you wouldn’t know that by the amount of noise we hear from the American Academy of Pediatrics and other medical societies about firearms versus what we hear about water safety.

The American Academy of Pediatrics has recently updated their policy statement regarding drowning and has a web page which includes a list of Swim Safety Tips.

The tips run the gamut from ways to secure your pool, to CPR training for adults, to safety equipment that should be available near a pool.

You know what is conspicuously absent from all of this advice? Telling parents to NOT have a pool, to NOT buy a boat, and to NEVER EVER go to the beach or lake.

Another conspicuous absence is the lobbying of government officials to place ever greater restrictions on swimming pools, boats, and bodies of natural water large and small, and even to ban some pools and boats completely.

Also absent is the demonization of the bathtub industry and the pool lobby, bills to sue pool manufacturers for deaths that they callously enable, and the advice to grill other parents about their pool habits and if there is any standing water or toilets where children play.

Didn't see anything about guns in that report but this may save a life.

As an AZ resident, this is not even an option...millions upon millions can drown every year.... I'm keeping my pool. Same goes for my firearms.

More people are killed by clubs than by rifles.

Only ban pools if someone's precious gun gets thrown in and ruined.

If you're that cheap and would buy a gun that would get ruined simply by getting thrown in a pool, that guy's gun deserves to be thrown in the pool.

There are more deaths due to excessive alcohol use per year than gun deaths which include suicide. More than double die from alcohol than guns.

480,000 people die every year in the United States from tobacco use.

40,000 gun deaths including suicide.
40,000 car accident deaths per year.
88,000 alcohol deaths not including drunk driving.
480,000 tobacco deaths per year.
100,000,000 people have diabetes or pre-diabetes in the United States.

No need to outlaw pools.

But we do need reasonable controls on them.

1. Mandatory classroom instruction on pool safety.
2. Mandatory courses in maintaining proper pool chemistry to prevent disease.
3. Licensing of those who wish to have a pool with appropriate fees to support emergency services.
4. Proper fencing of all pools - minimum 12-feet.
5. Government approved locks required for all gates allowing access to pools.
6. Annual inspection of all pools.
7. Annual inspection of all pools.
(separate fees for each inspection, scheduled at the convenience of the inspectors without
regard to convenience of the licensees)
8. Mandatory, government approved flotation devices for all pool users.
9. Several penalties, including prison time, for violation of any rule or regulation concerning pools.

A ban on pools? Don't be ridiculous. All we need are fewer than ten simple rules!

The first time a kid brings a pool to a high school and kills a room full of people with it, I'll be the first person to start protesting against the misuse of pools.

All these rules and I can still use my pool to drown someone when I need to.

The real goal has never been about public safety and the contrasting facts prove it.

The real goal is to disarm the American Middle Class.

We are the modern day Kulaks and never forget that the Bolshies hate us just as much as they did when they starved millions of Kulaks and their entire families to death 90 years ago.

Isn't it funny how when some toddler of a celebrity drowns in a pool because the parents were negligent it's a tragedy and no one is outraged if that same toddler was accidentally killed because he found a gun there is a call to have the parents of the toddler who got shot thrown in prison?

MAybe we should treat the negligent parents of kids who drown the same way you want to treat the negligent parents of a kid who shoots himself
