Oh, just knock of the betting to leave the board shit, will ya? If Biden wins I would never ask you to leave the board, just as if Trump wins, there'd be no way I'd go anywhere. I have too much fun here. Trump has the same path to winning that he did in 2016. He'll have to carry enough of the independents to get him over the top and take enough electoral votes in the swing states. In 2016, even with an unpopular opposition candidate, an entire bloc of voters staying home, and a last minute assist from the then FBI director, he still only won by around 77,000 votes across three states, none of which he has a lead in right now. And lost the popular vote to top it all off. He ran as the outsider, the man who was going to build the wall, drain the swamp, repeal Obamacare, and lock her up.

Well, it's 3.5 years later and unfortunately this year, he has a record to run on. And it is terrible. From his open warfare on immigrants right out of the gate, to his campaign under suspicion of colluding with a foreign power for help in an election resulting in a Special Counsel, to the constant turnover in his cabinet and staff due to incompetence and corruption, his ongoing war with the media, and culminating with his trying to strong arm Ukraine into digging up dirt on Joe Biden resulting in him being only the third President in the history of our nation to be impeached. And Republicans have been his willing accomplices. That 2017 tax cut is looking to be a giant albatross around the neck of the Republican Party given the fact they just walked out of town without doing anything to help the small businesses and working class people who've lost their jobs due to the ongoing virus outbreak.

As of January, 2020, it was shaping up to be an interesting election year. Trump's approval rating was down around 42%, even with a good economy (which is about the only positive he had to run on). He was up in Wisconsin, down in Michigan and Pennsylvania. He was up big in Texas, Ohio, North Carolina, and Florida. It was going to be close. Then, came the pandemic. And in the span of two months, his incompetence, ineptness, his lack of empathy and compassion was laid bare for the entire country to see. Anyone with half a thinking brain could see the guy wasn't up to the challenge. He was in over his head. Through the beginning of March, it was a constant stream of pep rallies the night before each Democratic primary, endless tweets, golf at least once or twice a week, and weekends at Mar-A-Lago. We used to have a functioning government. We used to have stand up politicians who could do the right thing for the country. We used to have politicians who would cross party lines. While all that slowly went out the window when Gingrich and his crew arrived in 1994, I thought that just maybe, Republicans might choose to save their party and their country. If the cabinet wasn't full of yes men and women and if there were any Republicans that had any honor or integrity left , then the night of March 11, 2020 should have been the last night of Trump's presidency.

But for Republicans, that ship has sailed. They are now joined to Trump at the hip. With an almost 92% approval rating in the Republican party, there's nothing any of them can do to jettison him and stop the coming carnage..and they know it. Before the pandemic, there were 5 Senate seats in play. Now there are 11 (I'm giving Jones seat back to Republicans). We're at over 4 million infections with almost 145K people dead, and we're six months into the virus. It's still spiking in Trump friendly states. Combine that with the almost 12% unemployment that's almost sure to get worse before it gets better and you are not going to have happy people. Sure, Trump will always have his core base (who will never leave him), but he's lost almost all the independent support he got in 2016. And that's not enough to get him over the top this November.
