I remember finding a penny and feeling rich because it meant I could go buy a piece of penny candy!

I remember my first "job" was sweeping the floor and straightening bolts of fabric at the little fabric store near my house. My boss paid me with a quarter, and yep, it went for candy and cheap toys.

All while eating 'junk food' I bet. My how things have gotten way out of control.

My mom got mad at me when I went to buy milk for the cat in the middle of a riot. Things were never the same after that.
Cats should not drink milk. Your mom was correct.

I think that was even before junk food existed. The junkiest things we ever got were potato chips and KoolAid along with dinner, and that was rare. An incredible privilege was a can of shoestrings!

That's a modern can too. (notice 'gmo free, etc. label) Those have been with us for decades. They were also nutrition free. LOL

Definitely nutrition free.

Yeah, I didn't take the time to look for a vintage can. I bet there would be one on eBay.

Someone's got a vintage candy wrapper for a bar made locally in Sioux Falls, about 50 years ago.

You know, if you think about it, our food (in America) is pretty nutritious and, we have so much of it, many Americans are fat and overweight because even with limiting portions it can still make you fat. In order to lose weight, we do things like stomach stapling, eating less nutritious food and shoot up with drugs to keep our digestive system from being so efficient. Maybe we would benefit from LESS nutritious food.

Borne of another thread, I am looking for a consensus on the matter. It's a simple straight-up yes or no.
Are you asking about EBT cards in general or just the amounts pertaining to SNAP?

Returnable bottles were a gold mine

No.

I have no problem with handing out food staples to people in need, but the government shouldn’t provide people with an endless supply of free Cheetos, Skittles, soda, beer, cigarettes, or lottery tickets.

If you want that stuff, it should be paid for out of your own pocket, not at the expense of the tax payers.

Allowing to buy ''Junk Food'' Example- Fastfood, candy, sodas, deli food any processed food will add to their health problems. Fresh meat, fruit, vegetables only should be purchased.

Problem is that those healthy options are available in Supermarkets at reasonable prices
Supermarkets abandoned the inner city decades ago.
All that are available are Bodegas, corner groceries that sell mostly snacks and fast food.

It's not that simple. If you compare every single food, it would be hard to determine whether one is junk food or something else. Hell, the health nuts would claim most everything is junk food. Unfortunately, part of the EBT program is to help feed people so they're not hungry and you can do that better by buying a grocery cart full of Twinkies, potato chips, and sodas.

Of course. "Junk Food" is a term that covers two thirds of everything out there we eat and like to eat. It mostly comes down to fast food. It is an unbridgeable liberty for each individual to decide what and how they eat and of absolutely no consequence nor business of anyone else's.

If anyone thinks differently, you just might be a fascist but just don't realize it yet.

EBT cards are for buying food, and junk food is food.

We should be a Nanny state. We need to dictate like Bloomberg did in NYC.

Next, we need to keep pregnant woman away from certain foods - save the unborn!
I forgot about that. Yeah, he wanted to micromanage the food we ate and the proportions.

I notice how you skewed your question, instead of asking: "Should EBT users be free to purchase the food they need, have available to them, prefer to eat and suits their circumstances best like everyone else, or should the government force them to eat things against their will just because they got sick or injured?"

The problem is, they buy junk food for enjoyment and a way of rewarding themselves. Then complain that they don't have any nutritional food and no money to buy any.

No one is forcing anyone to do anything. How ridiculous.
