Poll: FDR # 1 President

Dude, you had the opportunity to engage in post #40 in this thread. Why don't you respond there?
Why don't you start a fresh 1-on-1 thread?

Let's pick a referee and rules of engagement, if you thought that you're such the stuff.

C'mon.....Bring it.

I offered and already you are whinging? Take the rest of the evening to prepare a rebuttal to the findings of Gerald R. Ford School. I can be available after sunday school and church tomorrow. Look forward to it.

You don't think, Dude, you merely emote, and that, son, is worthless among men and women of understanding. Scoot.

anyway, seriously, whats you definition of a robber baron...?

A workable answer from robber baron: Definition from Answers.com

A disparaging term dating back to the 12th century which refers to:

1. Unscrupulous feudal lords who amassed personal fortunes by using illegal and immoral business practices, such as illegally charging tolls to passing merchant ships.

2. Modern-day businesspeople who allegedly engage in unethical business tactics and questionable stock market transactions to build large personal fortunes.

Investopedia Says: Due to the robber barons' unethical business practices, such as the exploitation of labor, the general public typically regards these aggressive capitalists with disdain. However, some historians argue that the late-19th century entrepreneurs usually referred to as "robber barons" - including Andrew Carnegie and John D. Rockefeller - are responsible for building a large portion of the U.S.'s current economic clout, because of their large investments in burgeoning American industries. Many also went on to become high-profile philanthropists.

Yes, revisionist historians try to revive the reputations of the Rockefellers and Carnegies. Yes, I studied in a Carnegie Library, but I know the blood spilled with which the money to build it. I suggest you study all the history about these guys.
FDR called them "Economic Royalists" in a famous speech

Yeah...If FDR was famous for nothing else, it was his his sanctimony.

Kinda like the Kennedys giving a seminar on marital fidelity.:lol::lol:
Yes, republicans called FDR a traitor to his class, because he felt for those less fortunate.

Marital fidelity is an issue for a spouse to address. We are not married to public servants.

WHEN are we ever going to see your 'libertarianism' DUD?

If everybody in this town connected with politics had to leave town because of chasing women and drinking, you would have no government.

That report is fascinating! Does it mean that poverty was trending down prior to the Great Society? I think so! Otherwise why the arbitrary timelines? Why not break it out pre-GS and post GS?

Also, and as I've said before Jake, there is already a political Party that believes that more and bigger government is the answer to every problem, real or imagined!

Instead of trying to sabotage the Republican Party be a man and announced your Inner Democrat.

Come on, Jake, step out of the closet, we know what you're doing in there.

Anyone who saw this nations poverty in the 30s, 40s and 50s would never question whether the war on poverty worked. LBJ established a safety net that keeps certain sections of our nation from living in third world conditions. If you saw the news reports during LBJs crusade you would see Americans living without running water, without electricity, without access to nutritious food.
Try to compare that to today. LBJ managed a great accomplishment with his social programs....Viet Nam wrecked him

The New Deal was an Epic Fail. Thanks for admitting it

That post hoc ergo propter hoc dog don't hunt, Sparky.

And of course the media showed us soup kitchen America...If it bleeds it leads was their motto way back then, too.

Fraid not Dudester....

That was America of the 30s-50s. There were areas of extreme poverty that rivaled third world living conditions. Yes the "bleeding heart" media brought it all into our living rooms...those bastards!

LBJ cared enough to do something about it

The New Deal was a Failure. Thanks again

Far from a fail....

The New Deal and great Society movement turned the US from an uncaring megasociety into a modern society. All great societies care for the less fortunate. Every modern society on earth has a mechanism to provide for its citizens....ALL of its citizens

I hope you bought stock in that stupid report validating LBJ as one of your heroes because here comes the short sale

I knew there was something wrong with the report just by reading the timeline they picked and whattyaknow...

Poverty was PLUMMETING prior to the Great Society. LBJ and The Dems arrested the fall in poverty and stabilized a large base of poor people who now needed the government to be their provider.

From each according to their means, to each according to their needs.

The New Deal was an Epic Failure, you've unwittingly admitted yourself multiple times now which also puts you in the category of less academically and intellectually fortunate.

Progressives need to lie 24/7 because Socialism is an Epic Fail everywhere and every time its tried.

The Depression of 20/21 is a far better example but it's not taught in schools. Instead we get the Imaginary "Greatness" of FDR, a man who turned an economic downturn into the worse economy since Barbarians sacked Rome.

Neither your Communist leaning nor your Stockholm Syndrome impresses me; as an effective pro-American President FDR was as large a failure as Obama. But as a Progressive who was going to bring Soviet style Central Planning to the USA, he is a hero!

So you need to totally redefine greatness and success to make FDR great.

I stopped buying that a long time ago.

Spot on- If I may; thats what I was trying to draw out of the rightwinger earlier. If you look at the data for say the African American pop. pre1965, you see a definite trend, and one point to make going forward was the stats as they wound up for participation in the labor force across the demographic ala- 18-24, 25-35 and so on....it plunged most especially for the 18-24 demo. as time went on and money and prgms. were pumped up ala the war on poverty. This is fact.

Kennedy earnestly set out to tackle poverty, he said succinctly and directly this would be a hand UP not a hand OUT. A coven of academics, Michael Harrington ( The Other America ) for instance leading the way who found Johnson and his admin. agreeable to their views, changed the paradigm, that and a SC decision as it pertained to welfare distribution ( AFDC) in 68 and viola’, hand out and, it was on.

"Progressives" which means Democrat, Liberal, Neo National Socialist, Neo Marxist, RINO and Fascist only care about adding to the power of the state. Any President or Congressman that is there to add to the state power and crush the individual is Great and worthy of their full support.

The Democrat Party is the home of Statism of Soviet Style Central Planning. All you have to do is look at how a murderer like Ted Kennedy or a KKK Grand Kleagle like Bobby Byrd is treated so see how much they support anyone who wants to increase the State power and crush Liberty and Freedom.
