John F. Kennedy was a strong supporter of Israel, often aligning with Zionist ideals, particularly in his public speeches which declared that the U.S. would not let Israel fall. As a senator and president, he viewed Israel as a "triumphant reality", championed its security, and initiated key military aid, such as the HAWK missile sale in 1962.

Key Aspects of Kennedy's Relationship with Israel:
  • Ideological Support: Kennedy believed in the legitimacy of the Jewish state, calling it "the child of hope and the home of the brave". He saw Israel's creation as the fulfillment of a long-standing desire for a homeland, as highlighted by the World Jewish Congress.
  • Political Stance: In his 1960 campaign, he labeled friendship with Israel a national commitment, rather than a partisan issue.
  • Policy Shift: While Eisenhower had a cooler relationship with Israel, Kennedy moved toward stronger diplomatic ties.
