Johnson, on Trump’s order, refuses to negotiate.

Trump is checked because he doesn’t want Congress back in session because they would have to seat another Democrat, and that Democrat could be the one who gets the discharge petition filed, forcing Bondi to release the Epstein material. Everyone can clearly see that Trump is deeply afraid of that.

Meanwhile, the public (and especially the working class public) get to see the real impact of Trump’s efforts to deprive 43 million people of affordable health insurance.

Not to mention the cascading effects of the shutdown.

I suspect it is all wrapped up together, if making so little you qualify for Medicaid, but could be wrong. You should remember, there are contractors and independent business people that get their insurance in the ACA marketplace, not just poor people. Around here, if you have income in excess of $2500 a month or have $3,000 in the bank, you make too much for Medicaid. If I was making that little, I could not afford insurance, be it commercial individual or ACA Marketplace, without a huge supplement. That is of course, unless I had a child or spouse long-running illness, where the choices were live on nothing but have insurance to keep the loved-one alive or watch them die before my eyes, just for being poor. Of course, before Obama's ACA, nobody had to sell you insurance if you had a pre-existing. It was just tough stuff for you and yours.

But don't the Obamacare plans are carry huge deductibles? Seems to me the ACA always was just a massive expansion of Medicaid. I doubt there was ever anyone who experienced the infamous "$2500 per year savings" Obama promised.

I used to see this on multiple plans at once, as PJ and I always carried family coverage on the corporate plans we had access to, just in case. With 3 active kids, as well as a history of cancer in the family, it was worth it to us on multiple occasions, to buy all the coverage, we could thankfully afford, even with rising deductibles.
