Its a strange situation where the ambulance saving your life ends up making you more of a victim.
How can an ambulance transferring a baby cost 7k ?
Were they feeding the kid caviar and krug ? Did they take him to South Africa or across town ?

Thats scary. Our Air Ambulance is not much better. It is funded by chatity donations. My friend Dixie MxNeill is the chief fundraiser.. Dixie is a local legend which helps.
Its a volunteer service and the patient does not get charged anything.
I will have to tell him about the 40k scam.
In the C19th all the insurance companies had their own fire services. If a wagon got to a fire not covered by their company they would not act.. They pretty soon decided that was crazy, There are better ways to help people.

It's a white liberal scam tommy, no one outside of socialist areas has to pay for an ambulance, by claiming to be "capping" expenses they are hiding the fact that they are "imposing" a fee for ambulances that does not currently exist on folks who live outside of the socialist system, the money will then be pooled of course and the politicians will then be able to draw from it with the built in bogus claim of "I don't see what is wrong with helping others"...

Our primary 911 responder service will bill you but if you don't have insurance they just eat it. It is a hybrid non-profit that has paid employees and a ton of volunteers. The for-profit one only gets dispatched if all the others or tied up or it seems like really a non-emergency call. They mostly do patient transports between hospitals or nursing homes. They very much will send you a big bill and then sue you if you don't pay. The fire department has first responders and they are usually the first on scene to a serious sounding 911 call. Last time I called 911 on a medical emergency, I had firemen walking through my front door in less than 3 minutes and by the time the ambulance arrived they already had the person assessed and ready to transport. The FD medical response folks don't mess around.

If you don't want to pay for an ambulance, get someone else to drive you to the ER for less.

What the ambulance companies charge is what they charge. If they try to restrict fees less than what the company needs, that will be your only choice anyhow.
