heh - for me, i've simply gotten to the point where you can show me you're christian, not tell me. if you have to tell me then maybe they're doing it wrong.
I think that's what Buttigieg was saying.
The chief complaint about Evangelicals being hypocrites IMHO is that they are very selective in choosing which sins to gasp and bite their knuckles over, and strangely accepting of others. An example is what Jesus said about divorce and how it makes adulterers. And if we go back to the OT, masterbation is a big NoNo. We've also seen a lot of 'bearing false witness', but the more notable Evangels view that sin thru the filter of who is doing the bearing. There are scads more from Deuteronomy.
Pence evidently spoke critically about Buttigieg's sexuality, and the Mayor responded that his reality is nature, not nurture. And his eloquence hit home to a lot of people.
they choose which sins are sins, the left chooses what laws are laws... i don't see much of a difference in the actions really. just the reasons why.
We don't choose what is and isn't sin; we choose which sins involve us and which ones are none of our business.
Really? Is that in Two Corinthians as well?
That's throughout the Bible for anyone who studies it and applies logic, rather than merely cherrypicking to suit an agenda and projecting your own massive judgementalism onto others.
God tells us, via the the Bible, what is and isn't a sin. That is not our decision to make. Meanwhile, if someone sins against me personally, then that is my business. Otherwise, their lives and their sins are between them and God and whatever person they wronged, if applicable. My job as a Christian is not to condemn or shame or to try to run other people's lives for them.
If Mr. Trump were to ask me, I would tell him that adultery is a sin. He hasn't asked me, partly because I'm pretty sure he already knows that, and mostly because I don't know the guy. Since he is unlikely to ask my advice or viewpoint on the subject, and I'm neither God nor his wife, it's not my business, and trying to make it my business because I want to be nosy and judgmental would be a sin on my part.
I get how confusing that must be to leftists who are bloated with self-righteousness far beyond their wildest imaginings of Christians, and feel exalted in verbally and even physically assaulting total strangers for their "sinful" political beliefs, but that's YOUR personal hobby horse, not mine.
