With articles of impeachment gathering dust on her desk Fancy Nancy is preparing to bring a new war powers bill to the House floor on Thurs to limit the authority of the POTUS. It's another move to prove just how impotent the House has become under her "leadership." The chances of it becoming law were in the car with Soleimani.

Boom!!!

Pelosi announces vote to limit Trump's war powers on Iran
In her statement, Pelosi said members of Congress "have serious, urgent concerns about the administration’s decision to engage in hostilities against Iran and about its lack of strategy moving forward.

What did Pelosi and her House Dem lemmings say just last month about their "urgent" need to remove Trump? :laughing0301:

Congressmen always whine about war powers and never do anything but bitch about it.

Limited defensive or preemptive attacks are NOT A WAR.
Desert Storm was not a war.
Korea was not a war
VN was not a war.
AFG was not a war

WTF does congress think it can stop?

The only serious, urgent concern is with Congress

The abuse of power, the debt, the incompetence
the bickering and inability to govern...WTF

Your right. Congress’ weakness is self-inflicted. Congress has especially been zealous in abdicating it’s constitutional duties under Trump. Congress should put its foot down before it is too late. Your point is taken that many believe it is already too late for Congress to reclaim the power they so obviously have under the Constitution.

What would you have Hysterical House Dems do? What is best for America? :laughing0301:

Darn shame she flushed impeachment down the drain. Now she’s addled about some other circumstance

For starters they can begin to reassert their constitutional prerogative. A Resolution is a good start.

BTW, it is not just Trump, I am equally worried about the next president and the precedents we create.

Her main concern is what it has always been

"what bullshit can I pull today to try to sling mud at the President"

Congress has the power to "declare war", but very few prudent and limited uses of the military are full blown declared wars. Congress cannot put handcuffs on the President. There are two camps on that and as it stands now most military actions are only (60) days or they require an AUMF.

War Powers Resolution - Wikipedia
The War Powers Resolution requires the president to notify Congress within 48 hours of committing armed forces to military action and forbids armed forces from remaining for more than 60 days, with a further 30-day withdrawal period, without a congressional authorization for use of military force (AUMF) or a declaration of war by the United States.

The senate would need 67 votes to override a presidential veto if they try to limit his authority any more than that, which is not going to happen any time soon.

Yeah ... persistently screaming "impeach 45" and "urgent to remove" have diminished the authority and significance of House Dem braying. Many here have long warned of the result of crying "wolf" but our words have regularly been ignored by those who have rendered congress impotent.

You are on the whole right. It may be time to revisit the War Powers Resolution. All presidents have stomped on it since it passed in 1973. Pelosi’ s resolution will not pass into law that is obvious. Given technological advances since 1973, the law probably is in need of revamping. I know any chance of passing such a revamping is slim to none.

What changes would you propose? The Law seems to be working as far as I can tell.
The president would obviously veto any more limits on his power, and most GOP senators would stand with the president.
