A newly released report has revealed that the 19-year-old gunman who shot up Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in February asked for help months before he went on the rampage, but the school district failed to act on his request.

According to The Daily Beast the shooter was told that "he could transfer to Cross Creek, a school tailored for students with special needs; sue the Broward school district; or stay at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School without any special counseling."

The Sun-Sentinel noted that the investigation found that the school district "did not follow the requirements of Florida statute or federal laws governing students with disabilities" in two specific instances:

How do you know? Where in the article does it say that? Broward County is actually about 50% Democrat and 50% Republican/Independent.

That means it is primarily Democratic Party at 50% and if you spilt Republicans and Independents they are 25% a piece, that would make it difficult for a Republican to win much of anything.

If Broward County is 50% Democrat, 21% Republican and 29% Independent, and you have two candidates, it would be very tough for a Republican to win in.

Look at it this way a Democrat if the Democrats got 65% of their own to vote Democrat and half of the Independents to vote Democratic, they would already lock up 49% of the vote. Now, if only 5% of Republicans vote Democratic the Democrats would win the election. Now, the more likely scenario is 75%-85% Democrats will vote Democratic, half of the Independents would vote Democratic and 15%-25% would vote Democratic, it would be almost impossible for Republican to win. They could but wins would be few and far between. Also teacher’s unions lean heavy in support of Democrats in most elections, and it doesn’t matter what the union make up is.

I’m not blaming Democrats, I am blaming a system that is in place that failed to help this guy get the right help. That is why gun control is useless until we get the underlying factors resolved.

Well I'm a public school teacher, also a conservative. I'm not a special ed teacher but I work with special ed students in my role.

There is a critical shortage of not only special ed teachers all across the nation, but also paraprofessionals. And it's no wonder. The schools and the gov't have failed, to a tiny extent, those kids but to a huge extent all of us.

Teachers should not have to be violently assaulted as "part of the job". Mind you: I am not a special ed teacher and I have been hit, kicked, bitten and had stuff thrown at me by special ed students.

Students should not have to leave THEIR OWN CLASSROOMS when a special ed kid melts down because no one is allowed to touch him, even to move him to another place. This happens all the time now.

Special needs children are hugely impacting the schools and the parents of these kids, who often (believe me) know their rights, are running the few people left who will teach their children right out of the classroom. Some of them, not all but some, also love to sue. So there go more teachers, with no one going into it.

It's a hot mess and no one is talking about it.

He will never get the death penalty. The scotus ruled in 2102, IIRC, that the DP for juveniles was cruel and unusual punishment.

Well number 1, an obama policy that banned schools for telling police officers about a student committing a crime. Let this tadegy happen. You need more?

Yes a lot more. Please point to where in the article it says the school is being run by Democrats. I know quit a few people who work in schools as teachers and various other positions that are Republicans. My landlords wife works in administration at the local school and she loves Trump.
