Ethan Salas from Venezuela is a catcher. The San Diego Padres *signed the boy to a $5.6 Million contract.

Born in 2006, he's 6'2" 185 lbs, and supposedly one hell of a hitter.

"The 16-year-old Salas is ranked No. 1 among international prospects by Baseball America and MLB.com"

*Rumor is it's a verbal contract.

I thought a player could be 17 to sign an MLB contract.
The following says 18 with exceptions if younger.

"Players on MLB teams must have United States citizenship or be naturalized citizens in order to be eligible to play. The age requirements for MLB players are as follows: -Players must be at least 18 years old to sign a Major League contract, though some players are signed at younger ages."

Looks like the Venezuelan needs his US citizenship. I'm sure he'll get it, somehow(?)
