The FERS program is far superior than nearly all private sector companies compensation programs. WHY? With over 2 million Federal workers already, the FERS program is a ticking time bomb for future generations. Federal Government retirement should be on a par with the private sector.

Obviously anyone already drawing FERS retirement would not be affected but FERS should be greatly reduced or replaced going forward.

And thank goodness for it! It allows me and mine to live well in retirement. ;)

That said health insurance at retirement is not free as some would believe. It costs us around $600.00 a month and that is more of a gap insurance for Medicare....That said it is top notch and the same as the congress critters get depending on the options you sign-up and pay for.

LOL.....It's one of the few .gov things that was promises made, promises delivered.

Yeah, I know it galls those in the private sector but, well, it's not my fault that the ,gov is bloated.

Remember a full 25% of Biden's jobs "created" were in fed, state, and local government.....Trillions in grift money (that the uniparty approved) will do that.

The deal was always the same as for other gov't jobs, teachers for instance. You get paid less than the private sector but you have a secure pension if you stay. A good percent of FERS is through social security.

i am one of the last civil service retirees.....i never paid into SS....

Graft and corruption I believe it is called.

As I said, anyone who is already receiving FERS benefits should be exempt. In my opinion it is critical to replace FERS with a program that is inline with private sector retirement programs.

A good percent is not part of social security. I had no pension through my private sector company. I had a 401K plan which is what government workers should have and no more.
Pensions used to be the norm if you worked for a big organization because they are great. A 401K should be the backup and Social Security should be a retirement plan of last resort. Just because you got screwed doesn't mean you should want to screw other people.

The thing is the pay for government work is more and more on par or exceeding equivalent private sector work in many cases.
