Our country is facing a Free Speech crisis.

One question for you based on your response:

"WHO decides whether it is in the public interest or not? Trump?"

I personally believe that Steven Colbert and more so, Jon Stewart serve the public interest well. They bring up the issues that are facing the country and do it in a humorous way that drives it deeper and more understandable for the public.

Trump already got rid of Colbert and is targeting Stewart.

In addition, and forgetting comedians and the media, he already got rid of the Department of Education and USAID, both of which served the public interest. So where does that leave your argument?
Cable is not regulated by the government.

And I think the DoE is still around.

The FCC in combination with the public, there is a public complaint process as well as public renewal of licensure objection process, unfortunately the public side of the equation has been broken for quite some time as it is most often a one-sided process where the interests of the public are pitted against the interests of big corporations, with the public losing that battle more often than not.

The current regulatory system was first conceived when there was only radio (television came later) and has now become bureaucratic, corrupt and ineffective, perhaps it's time to re-think the model given that the media landscape has completely changed and the system has not kept up with the times.

Here is Trump just yesterday saying that 97% of the media is against him and since they all need licenses to stay open, their licenses should be revoked. In addition, it is not just the media he is trying to shut down. It is every company, institution and Federal departments that oppose him.

What is even worse is that a large number of all Republicans support him on this issue!

This all suggests that Freedom of Speech is no longer important and that being loyal to one man (Trump - no matter what he does), is now a requirement to stay in business, or even for an individual person to stay out of harm's way, simply by voicing his mind and his concerns.

It's not a "free speech" issue. If Congress doesn't like the FCC and the laws regarding licenses to broadcast networks, and how they aren't suppose to detort the news, or be bias, they can change the laws....I think there would be some backlash, because I think the majority of Americans have expectations of broad networks using our airways

Stewart is not regulated the same way as ABC, NBC, CBS and other broadcast networks

You might want to take the time to read up on the FCC and the laws they were created by Congress to enforce, it might help you a good bit into not being fooled by leftist propaganda in to thinking this has anything to do with Free Speech

Really weird that a guy whose sole mission in life is to rant against the sitting president on a public forum on which nobody stops him from being as repetitive and deranged as he chooses to express concern about a free speech "crisis."
Rant against the SITTING president? WRONG!!!!!

Trump is the ONLY president I have ever ranted on. In fact, in my 60 years as a voter, I had never even voted or made comments on any president (other than good comments about Obama) so that you can say that I am ranting on sitting president.

I do rant against incompetence, lack of morals, ethics, principles and humanity but then again, I only rant on those that can actually do harm to my nation, my community, and my family.

You see that as being the wrong thing to do?

and as far as Free Speech crisis, have you ever seen a president that has had such SUCCESS in going after and accomplishing the goal of shutting those that oppose him?????

You do not like Free Speech?

I do agree with you on one thing "big corporations do not have the public's best interests at heart", but then again, it is Trump that has helped them the most and given them the most and it is also the fact that most presidents (whether Democrats of Republicans) have been unable to do anything about it.

Where I disagree with you entirely is that the FCC (in combination with the public) has the right to shut down the media, company's institutions, and Federal departments. That is the job of the law and then only after it is taken in front of a judge and been found guilty.

Carr (FCC chief) has shown loyalty to Trump and has done what Trump has asked (and done it against what he personally has stated in the past about Free Speech). As such, it is all Trump that is making these decisions...............not the ones that by right of the Constitution, are the ones that should be making them.

What has Trump given ABC, NBC or CBS?

Then make your debate point.

There is a LOT of proof against your idea
No, there isn't. There is a bunch of you leftoids hyperventilating over an ABC business decision.

ROFLMAO! what a completely ridiculous assertion, you think Donald Trump has been on the side of the major broadcast networks? :auiqs.jpg: Apparently you forgot, the whole premise of your own argument was complaining about Donald Trump going after the broadcast networks as first amendment infringement.

For cryin' out loud if you're clueless enough to actually post this, I can't see taking anything that follows from you on the subject seriously.

Whiner this maga baby.

Trump suggests FCC could revoke licenses of TV broadcasters that give him too much 'bad publicity'

You were fine when biden was strong arming social media to squash any speech against an mRNA injection that has caused millions of injuries and death. No one is listening to you. You're only damning yourself as a hypocrite.

This is precisely why the First Amendment covers a free press, to prevent the president from acting like a dictator would.

I was requesting a link for the claim of millions of deaths.
