Organ Donors Beware!!

In other words you have no idea whether your donor was alive or dead. Just what you were told.
My donor could not have been dead you moron because the liver would have no longer been viable 24 hours after I was notified it was available. Use a little common sense!

I got his liver only because I was number one on the list for his blood type. Had this young man been a different blood type, I would not have received that liver and it would have gone to someone else.

In California they just had check a box to check when getting a drivers license.
Not sure if that's changed or not. It's been 18 years since I've lived there.
I am referring to organ donations that take place after the patient has been declared brain dead. More than one doctor must certify a person is donating their organs because they will not recover. It is not like some paramedics says, "Hey, this guy is an organ donor on his DL so DOC you can start carving them up!"

This story mentions the NY Times and we all know how they like a sensational headline only later to find out that is complete bullshit!

What part of brain dead, do you not understand? Is it because you are brain dead? A person who is conscious will likely recover.

I exchanged letters with this young man's mother on several occasions.
She no doubt believed that she was doing the right thing. She was certainly told she was doing the right thing. It's not like the donor is going to complain.

She did the right thing! I am alive because she did the right thing. Do you have a heart to go in place of that lack of brain you are functioning with?

I completely understand your feelings about transplantation. I know people who were on the list and died. However that does not change the exposure that's being revealed. In some cases, the donor isn't dead and might be fighting for their lives. Of course they die pretty quickly once their organs have been removed. Transplant teams are starting to play fast and loose with the rules. We turn into China an increment at a time.

While you blather on about having no heart, did you ever spare a thought to those donors who not only aren't dead, but possibly conscious.

I don't believe the story. The process is too difficult and tightly controlled to allow such haphazard actions as described.

You would be right, if there weren't so many stories and from every country that has a transplant protocol. The most egregious stories come from countries that have both assisted suicide and demand for organs for transplant. Canada is an abuser. Canada Leads World in Organ Donations from Euthanasia

Netherlands euthanasia is encouraged anong the troubled and depressed. "Make your worthless life meaningful. Kill yourself by giving your organs up.

In Brussels, you don't get a choice. Everyone is an organ donor. Assisted suicide is encouraged.

There is no doubt that your donor's mother was told how wonderful she was in agreeing to donation. The procedure was explained to her, in detail. Of course. She was petted and soothed and convinced until she pushed every doubt aside. We all have to find ways of getting through difficult times.

What doubts? Her son was dead but his body just hadn't found out yet.

Why are you talking about other countries? That is not the topic.

Is the topic transplants? Then everywhere there is a transplant procedure is part of the topic. I understand how you have to feel about it. I had a friend that was on the transplant list for a liver. I went with him to every appointment, discussion and examination. Cedars Sinai is so huge that we had a guide, a transplant patient who was also able to answer questions. I got a fairly decent education into transplants. My friend was down quite far on the list. I read about a treatment program in Europe using Milk Thistle so he started on Milk Thistle. His liver showed every indication of functioning normally. He kept falling further and further back on the list. In two years he was taken off completely. He died of necrotizing faciatis, but his liver still worked just fine. I got a fairly good education in the transplant process.

The topic was about here in the US. Other countries don't follow our procedures.

I too had a problem that my liver would fail just enough to make me sick all the time but not enough to get me higher on the transplant list. I was kept off the list because of a heart condition that required cardiac artery stents and had me on blood thinners for 6 months. They can't cut you open from stem to stern if you will bleed to death.

I also suffered from hepatic encephalopathy where ammonia buildup in your liver causes you brain to trip offline. I spent three days in a coma thanks to that, and they put me on meds to prevent it. A subsequent minor episode put me in Vanderbilt where they found my liver function was worse enough to move me up to number 1 on the list. They said it could take months, but I was given a new liver 10 days later because I got a matching blood type.

You live in California? Maybe that's the problem!

Nature's way of saying your time is up but mankind plays God with medical technology. Do you have a comfortable quality of life?

I'm a Brit and the rules changed here. Initially you had to sign up to be an organ donor, then it changed and everyone was automatically signed up as a donor. So I had to contact the NHS to be removed off the donor organ list. I came into the world with my bits, and I'll go out with them too.
