It will be the anniversary in a few days of operation varsity when thousands allied airborne troops crossed the River Rhine just a couple of days before saw operation Plunder when British troops under the 21st army group under General Montgomery crossed the Rhine at Wessel and Rees spearheaded by the Scottish 51st Highland division and the Canadian 3rd and 9th infantry divisions, my Dads unit the Guards Armoured div followed the 51st Highland at Rees.

So taking the bridge at Remagan was just a mere trifle to the Germans according to the Brits?

LOL....The Brits so wanted to be recognized as equal partners in the west. There are even questions if Varsity should have even been launched after the Remagen crossing.

The unexpected capture of the Ludendorff Bridge at Remagen by the U.S. Army on March 7, 1945, was a turning point, allowing American forces to establish a bridgehead on the east side of the Rhine.

It is always astonishing how little attention the most intense theater, the eastern front, gets.

Nothing could have been done about Hitler without the Russian war efforts.

Which British person said Remagen was a mere trifle?

1:48 in your OP' video....."the American crossing in the south could be of nuisance value but no more".....Yeah, I can see where 5 divisions already across the Rhine and rapidly expanding well before Varsity might be a pretty damn big "nuisance".

Yes you have a point looking at the vid, but that was one guy anyone with sense knows the Remagen battle was a great success and possible helped to shorten the War in the West.
