In fact Netanyahu said as much when explaining why he supported the ceasefire for the next two months. It’s worse than the farewell swipe Obama took at Israel with the U.N. vote.
I bet Netanyahu and Israelis are counting down the days until Jan 20 even more fervently than we are.
Victory would remove the threat of new Hezbollah attacks in the future, and would require continuing military action by Israel if Hezbollah does not leave southern Lebanon or if it tries to rearm and thus agreement does not provide for this.It is the Israeli victory. Netanyahu´s condition for peace talks is being fulfilled by Hezbollah. Red here the news of Nov 3.
Note that Operation Norther Swords is not equal to Operation Iron Swords. It is not about the destruction of Hezbollah but only done to end the shelling. With this agreement the goal of the operation, provide safety for inhabitants of northern Israel, has been achieved.
Hezbollah has been severely defeated.
Israel declares its goal. And constant war in Lebanon is not the goal. Hezbollah has been thrown out of the war. This is a major milestone on the path to peace. The goal is to destroy Hamas. They did the atrocities. With Hamas and its terror being eradicated, stability and peace will have a new chance in the region.Victory would remove the threat of new Hezbollah attacks in the future, and would require continuing military action by Israel if Hezbollah does not leave southern Lebanon or if it tries to rearm and thus agreement does not provide for this.
I had heard that Biden and Obama really badgered him into it - and not even allowing Israel a security margin - and that he was willing to go along with it because he knew in two months, he would have a pro-Israel president and not Islamic terrorist sympathizers at the helm.In fact Netanyahu said as much when explaining why he supported the ceasefire for the next two months.
But Israel needs to maintain a minimal security force in Lebanon to ensure continuing peace, and the anti-Israel Obama wouldnt allow it.Israel declares its goal. You paint a very pretty picture, and I hope you are right, but in the past ceasefires with Hamas and Hezbollah have only led to periods in which they rearm in preparation for new attacks and there is no reason to think this ceasefire will be any different. The conditions of this ceasefire are exactly the same as the conditions for the ceasefire in 2006, and while Israel withdrew as required then, neither Hezbollah nor Lebanon nor the UN or any other entity made any effort to get Hezbollah to comply. There is no reason to expect anyone to put any pressure on Hezbollah or Lebanon to comply this time.Israel declares its goal. And constant war in Lebanon is not the goal. Yes, Netanyahu said exactly that in his speech to the Israeli public about the ceasefire. Biden joined forces with France, which is openly hostile to Israel, to pressure Israel to sign this ceasefire under threat of voting for a UN resolution demanding an Israeli withdrawal.I had heard that Biden and Obama really badgered him into it - and not even allowing Israel a security margin - and that he was willing to go along with it because he knew in two months, he would have a pro-Israel president and not Islamic terrorist sympathizers at the helm.
No such force is required. It would only be a reason for Hezbollah to continue. But Israel needs to maintain a minimal security force in Lebanon to ensure continuing peace, and the anti-Israel Obama wouldnt allow it.
The ceasefire is no guarantee for lasting peace but maybe a first step. Sure, armies do rearm. What are going to do about it? Make Israel occupy Lebanon and look under every stone for combatants like they have to do in the Gaza strip? You paint a very pretty picture, and I hope you are right, but in the past ceasefires with Hamas and Hezbollah have only led to periods in which they rearm in preparation for new attacks and there is no reason to think this ceasefire will be any different. Hamas, Hezbollah, Iran and Iran's other Arab proxies have been very clear that they are committed to continue fighting until Israel is destroyed, and that means there will be no peace in the reason until they all abandon the goal of destroying Israel, just as Egypt did in 1979. A ceasefire now is just a promise by the Arabs of another bigger war in the near future.
Hezbollah is not a national army; it is a transnational terror group committed to the destruction of Israel, and so to find peace between Lebanon and Israel, Hezbollah must be disarmed. The ceasefire is no guarantee for lasting peace but maybe a first step. The best thing is an agreement of Israel, Syria and Lebanon. Final borders must be negotiated.
Then substitute “presence” for force. Can’t leave a vacuum or other Islamic terrorists would move in to fill it.No such force is required. It would only be a reason for Hezbollah to continue.
That is not a practical pre-condition. Negotiations must take place on eye-level or the are doomed to fail.Hezbollah is not a national army; it is a transnational terror group committed to the destruction of Israel, and so to find peace between Lebanon and Israel, Hezbollah must be disarmed.
The UN is there and the Lebanese army will deploy 5000 troops. Then substitute “presence” for force. Can’t leave a vacuum or other Islamic terrorists would move in to fill it.
That was the problem with Gaza. The Israelis moved out, and look what happened.
The UN's presence does not instill much confidence. The UN is there and the Lebanese army will deploy 5000 troops.
The UN? They despise Israel! The UN is there and the Lebanese army will deploy 5000 troops.
The UN's presence does not instill much confidence.
Permanent Israeli occupation will just fuel the conflict. The UN? They despise Israel!
Haven’t we learned from Gaza? Israelis moved out completely 15 years ago (maybe 20?), and look what happened.Permanent Israeli occupation will just fuel the conflict.
All of our experience tells us that this ceasefire will just lead to another larger war, just as they always have. No lasting peace between Israel and Lebanon is possible unless Hezbollah is disarmed; that's why this ceasefire has come much too soon, but that doddering old imbecile, Biden, wants his biography to read that he brought peace to the ME before he is removed forever from relevance in this world. That is not a practical pre-condition. Negotiations must take place on eye-level or the are doomed to fail.
Its not the same. Your solution doesn´t work for Lebanon. Again, both sides should get to the table.Haven’t we learned from Gaza? Israelis moved out completely 15 years ago (maybe 20?), and look what happened.
