Hypocritical busting a politician for bribery when bribery was legalized a long time ago. All this is is he did it wrong.

Yep, that's essentially what we have.

A huge, open air, ongoing, public and perfectly legal bribery scam.

And no one seems to care about that.

Maybe some combination therein.

But for the life of me, I can't understand why so many put so much faith and trust in these people.

New York's State level government is set up for corruption. basically the governor, the leader of the Assembly, and the leader of the Senate form a troika. Nothing happens if one of them doesn't like something.
