On this issue of the government shutdown the Republicans did the proverbial "snatching defeat out of the jaws of victory"! Back on October 1 the Democrats were one- hundred percent wrong in not facilitating passing the Republicans Continuing Resolution. It was essentially a clean CR it maintained the status quo on government funding it was all about keeping the government open, never in my lifetime and I am in my sixties would a political party not sign on to such a CR it was per se political negligence. The Democrats in Congress objectives over the 2026 budget were largely legitimate and had great merit but they were premature they were issues that should have been addressed in negotiations on the budget bill, not over a clean CR! But now the situation has been reversed one hundred and eighty degrees with President Trump and his Project 2025 idealogue Russell Vought, the Budget Director, cutting four-thousand federal jobs this will significantly impact government services. In one instance the Center for Disease Control (CDC) job cuts will at least slow down the world's response to serious infectious disease outbreaks throughout the world leading to human deaths and it will slow the dissemination infectious disease spikes within the United States to the medical community across the nation hurting America's medical care to Americans with health problems! The Republicans no longer have the high ground of a clean CR their status is they are offering a CR with four thousand jobs cuts on valuable government services and the Republican Party is poised to do more federal job cuts on what Republicans call Democrat agencies which one could fairly classify as social service programs and programs that President Trump's disordered conscience thinks aren't good!
The Republicans out maneuvered themselves now they have to come to the negotiating table and negotiate with Democrats over America's healthcare system and preserving Congress's constitutional power over spending! This is an utmost serious matter the media focuses on federal workers who are working without a pay check and furloughed workers who have to deal with not getting a paycheck; but these workers will get back pay when the government is eventually re-opened. the media largely ignores the other serious problem and to a large degree a much worse problem which is all those federal contract workers whose employer isn't the federal government but a private entity who gets their revenue from the federal government and who is now not getting that revenue because of the government shutdown, all these federal contract workers will not be getting back pay which will leave many of them in great financial disrepair. It is incumbent and incumbent to a very very serious to try to negotiate a deal quickly that can reopen the government and stop this devastating harm on ordinary Americans! Speaker Mike Johnson should call the House of Representatives back into session immediately not that rank and file Republicans and Democrats member of the House themselves can negotiate a government re-open deal but discussions can take place amongst them to indicate where consensus is taking shape to help Congressional leaders put together a re-open deal! The Republican Party will be making an historic mistake if they stick with the position Democrats re-open the government and then we will negotiate the American people aren't stupid they can see the Republican Party is implementing their agenda about government expenditures and so Democrats have a legitimate position to now see it as the time to stop the harm from the Republican Party on America and begin on healthcare policy where imminent harm to a lot of Americans is pending due to Republican public policy changes!
