Early reports from South Africa seem to indicate the omicron variant of coronavirus is much more contagious than previous variants while causing milder disease, though experts there warn definitive data won't be available for weeks.

There's no difference between Omicron training your body in how to defeat the virus and Moderna's vaccine that trains your body in how to defeat the virus.

A vaccine does not infect. It triggers a response that is short lived. That is why the protections wain and the memory it creates is not long term.

Infection causes a reactive response, a fighting response. This creates more T-cells and a greater number of active antibodies. The response is more robust and give significantly more T-cell memory.

While the processes are very similar, they are not the same.
