Law enforcement can't put you under oath.

Actually, I think the FBI does NOT put people under oath if they've not yet pretty much decided to not refer any charges. If charges are likely, then there's the perjury and 5th Amendment thingamajigs. And while I don't have first hand knowledge of the following, I assume that if a person says something in an interview that is not under oath, then the FBI follows up with a more thorough investigation, and an under oath interrogation.
