Our men and women of Team USA have absolutely dominated hockey in the Olympics.

Our women defeated Canada for the gold yesterday in overtime.

As I write this, the men's Team USA is pounding the shit out of Slovakia, entering the third period with a score of 5-0. This means Slovakia will be playing Finland for the Bronze, and we will be competing against Canada on Sunday for the Gold.

It is embarrassing how badly our boys and girls have been spanking the planet. The only ones who gave us a good fight were the Swedes, who we beat by a whisker in overtime.

I have to say, the Swedes play like real gentlemen. They don't slam their opponents into the boards, they don't play rough at all.

Something I learned while watching the female Team USA is that body checking an opponent into the boards is not allowed in the women's hockey. One of our gals was sent to the sin bin for doing so.

Are you kidding me? Body checking into the boards is all part of the game in men's hockey!

Watching this USA v. Slovakia game, there is a Slovak who appears to have some kind of vendetta against one of the Tkachuk brothers, Matthew. The Slovak has physically attacked Tkachuk several times, including coming from behind and putting Tkachuck in a choke hold. Without drawing a penalty!

After the third or fourth attack, he was finally sent to the sin bin, but it has not stopped him.

There is something personal going on here.

Slovakia just scored a goal that should have been easily stopped by our goaltender. Team USA is getting sloppy because they are so far ahead.

Canada will win if it becomes a high scoring track meet.

If it is a lower scoring game, the U.S has a shot.

May the best team win.

Oh, yeah. One of our goals against Slovakia was disallowed in the first period. So we scored TWO goals in the next 19 SECONDS.

USA! USA! USA!

Auston Matthews with no points this game. With so many goals I am shocked.

I hope he stays this way against us.

Cernak has attacked Tkachuk again! This one was bad. Punch after punch after punch to Tkachuk's face, with a dozen guys trying to hold him back.

Holy shit. He just earned a ten minute misconduct penalty.

What the hell is going on between these two? Something off the ice, obviously.

That's game. 6 to 2.

I love how you reported this OP, very exiting. LOL!!!!

Oh, and goooooo....USA!!!!

You must be so disappointed.

I looked into this Cernak/Tkachuck thing. It appears Tkachuck is infamous for provoking opponents into old school fights on the ice. Not just Cernak.

For those of you who don't watch NHL hockey, when you watch Sundays gold.match at 8am, pay attention to the times the offense rush in waves and other times they "dunp and chase". The speed and power to recover the puck is elite athletic compete unlike any sport in terms of speed and physical battles. The greatest sport in the world for speed and action.

The last time the US won the gold in Olympic hockey was 1980.

Yeah.

That was the famous Miracle On Ice when our kids beat the professional Soviet thugs.

There was a great movie called Miracle made with Kurt Russel which you can watch right now on Hulu.

There is also a 2026 documentary about that game on Netflix called Miracle: The Boys of '80.

My daughter and I just watched the drama and are going to watch the documentary next.

Trivia fact: Kurt Russell gave up part of his pay so the extras in the stands could get a hot meal instead of the box lunch planned for them.

My daughter is a hockey fan. She is a CNA and the first NHL game we watched together, she was cringing at the abuse the knees of hockey players take.

The average time a player spends on the ice is 45 seconds before switching out. That speaks to just how brutal this game is on the players.

Speed and action. Yes. You can't take your eyes off the game for even a second. Things happen incredibly fast.

Because of the speed of a game, I have mentioned in another topic how impressed I am with the ability of the announcers to call the game.

I'm thinkin the USA team will blow the game with penalties ..Tkachuk Tkachuk etc. ..

Canada is just to much for them on the penalty kill ..

I guess it depends if there is any bad blood between Tkachuk and any of the Canadian players.

When we were playing against Slovakia, it was the Slovak player who kept getting sent to the sin bin for attacking Tkachuk.

This tells me Tkachuk knows how to talk shit so expertly, he causes the opponent to come unglued.

That sounds like an asset to me!

It seems like the players drop their twigs more often in the Olympics than during regular NHL games.

The new gloves must be too stiff?

One Slovakian player launched his stick into the crowd when he made a slapshot.

.. mmm .. Brad Marchand could add a twist as well .. :dunno:

Here we go.

Two minutes in, and there's already a fight. Guess who was in the middle of it.
