Ok I'm going to say that the Qatar plane is a bad deal.

Are they hoping for a fatal accident perhaps?
The B-52 bombers.... Some of them are 70 years old I believe.
The pressurized part is the forward crew compartment...The rest is unpressurized.

After that, they've had scores of upgrades over the course of the years.

As of 2024, the U.S. Air Force has 76 B-52s: 58 operated by active forces (2nd Bomb Wing and 5th Bomb Wing), 18 by reserve forces (307th Bomb Wing), and about 12 in long-term storage at the Davis-Monthan AFB Boneyard. The operational aircraft received upgrades between 2013 and 2015 and are expected to serve into the 2050s.

Nobody expected the Buff to be in service as long as it has. It's an amazing airframe.

That's the result of being able to operate in US controlled and mostly uncontested airspace. Contested airspace is another matter.

During the Vietnam war, 31 B-52s were lost, including 15 shot down by mostly SAMs.

I thought it would be available within months to use as a replacement for the aging fleet of Air Force One standbys. But that's not the case. It wouldn't be ready until about 2029 which is about the same time the two brand new planes will be ready to go.

Ultimately there's no reason to pursue it anymore.
Hopefully cooler heads will prevail here and the whole thing will just die on the vine.

It has too much potential to smell like personal gain at this point.

But that's just me.

I don’t think we should use it as AF1. Don’t see any reason for the defense dept not to accept it as a gift, though. I’m sure it can be put to some use.

Look at the DEI admin that preceded this one and review the "competent" actions they accomplished. That should answer that question.
I am in agreement that the Qatar plane deal is probably a bad deal as more details become available. That is why I have looked at it as fake news since first reported with no named sources and no reports of anything concrete---other than democrats howling at the moon over something that may or may not ever happen--especially since it would take congressional approval.
It was polite (and good diplomacy) to accept it, even if we never use it. What is the downside?

My point was this is nothing but conjecture at this point. It is being discussed. There has been no formal acceptance and would take congressional action anyway. It is just democrats trying to distract from Trump's recent wins.

Trump should announce that the sky is checkerboard and Martians are doing it in order to accomplish some racist action---that would give the tin hat democrats something to howl about for at least a week.

An interesting upside:

Boeing gets its biggest 787 jet order ever from Qatar Airways, the White House says

Boeing (BA) secured a massive deal to manufacture planes for Qatar Airways, according to the White House.

The deal calls for up to 210 planes, a combination of 787 Dreamliner and 777X aircraft, to be built by Boeing using engines from GE Aerospace (GE). It’s “Boeing’s largest-ever widebody order and largest-ever 787 order,” the White House said in a fact sheet it circulated Wednesday.

The deal, which is worth $96 billion, will create 154,000 U.S. jobs annually and over one million U.S. jobs in total during production and delivery, according to the release. The announcement came while President Donald Trump is in Qatar on an official state visit.

Sounds like the "gift" is already excess to requirements. lol

And still Boeing hates Trump's guts....

When the airplane shows up, you will say it is a fake airplane.

Hate him all you want, OUR potus deserves AF1 JO......~S~

Well I don't of course....
Yes you are right....
I didn't realize that's the two Air Force One planes were in such poor condition. I was hoping that this gift plane would be able to do the job in a matter of months but apparently it's a two to three year makeover.

Trump won't be President in 2029. So, how is this a personal gain? Not only that, the plane is being given to the Defense Department, not Donald Trump. Should we give France back the Statue of Liberty too? How about the Louisiana Purchase too? I don't remember you tools complaining about Obama and Biden giving Iran millions of dollars in the middle of the night. What the heck is the matter with You TDS Democrats and Republicans? You are for democracy when Obama, Hillary and Biden win the popular vote but against democracy when Trump does? Unbelievable stupidity.

I am a staunch supporter....btw
You do raise an interesting point about the gift that I hadn't considered. And if you don't remember my complaining about Obama then you haven't been reading my posts for very long.
I'm just wondering about the wisdom of accepting something that isn't going to be ready in time to be used. However I accept the passionate rebuke and will process your offered info.

What a guy! If Trump had been given the gift personally, then that would raise eyebrows for sure. But, it is to the Department of Defense to use as a plane for the President. Or, whatever else they will do with it. Maybe sell it back to someone for a profit. Sorry about the personal stuff.
