Odds and Your pick to win the 2025 World Series?

I forgot. Yes the 94' strike (caused shorter 95) sent me packing (a lifetime fan hung on every pitch, every stat) until the 2000s' I got sucked back in. Now? What happened? I literally did not watch any of it. I used to check MLB.com to see the standings, stats, boxscores, schedules. I almost forgot about MLB very suddenly again.
Why?

I will be attending, with my lovely wife, the Mariners 1st Home Game on October 4th.

soto is the best player the mets have....he aint the reason they got booted thats for sure he showed up to play....
Soto there’s a phenomenal talent no doubt. But for the money he’s getting paid I think he should be batting 300 with at least 50 home runs.

Soto sure is a great talent … but Alonso had a better year.

The “Soto shuffle”? Yay Juan has done that a few times this year. It does look a bit weird but I guess that’s his thing.

Well as for the MLB payrolls, it is what it is. It’s allowed to happen so it’s going to happen. Every now and then though there is an upset and a small market team makes a run.

I am surprised all pitchers don't go up and in FB every time he comes to the plate and starts the stare down act. 4 pitches. Get his attention. They would have drilled him in the olden days for certain.

Reportedly his play in RF is not up to requirements. Hence, Soto rumored to be a DH where he belongs?

Agree on Trout. He did a lot w/o much help when not injured.
Soto is in the top ten for PO and Assists and isnt in the Errors top ten....i dont know how that makes him bad?...

Soto may have been a bad deal for the Mets. he’s only 26 so let’s see what happens there. He’s hitting slightly below his usual batting average this year and nowhere near his contract value. But in any event some people say he’s a glorified designated hitter. Another Mike Trout style disappointment?

The big question for the mets imo will be Peter Alonso. Pete had a great year hitting wise better than Soto… and he did himself a favor by signing a contract earlier this year that gave him an opt out clause after the season ends which he took and he is now a free agent. I suspect he will get big money good for him. He is 30 years old so he won’t get as long of a contract as Soto but I suspect at least $200-250 million total…as opposed to the 7 year deal the Mets offered him a few years ago, which I think was around 125 million
Soto started out slow but finished with 42 HRs, 105 RBIs, 38 SB and set a Mets record for walks. He delivered

Mets were predicting Alonso was on the backend of his career and didn’t want to commit to more than two years with a player opt out.
Alonso had one of the most productive seasons of his career and now Mets will pay.

Soto may have had some nice stat lines with regards to fielding this year.

Here’s why some folks believe he is a glorified DH.

Well they won the World Series last year and in 2020. And very likely might win it this year. Who knows let’s see what happens.

Freeman, Betts, Pitching....they signed many big names. Biggest name Othani signed. You can't load up much more than that. But where it counts in these days? The BP. I heard SD loaded up the BP last summer. That could spell trouble. you can't put Kershaw or Kelly? down there again and expect to be automatic shutdown.

Well, congratulations to the Cleveland “guardians”…. 11 games back of the division lead at the beginning of September and they have pulled off the greatest division comeback in baseball history winning the Al central division today.

As for my picks to win the World Series. I’m thinking either the Philadelphia Phillies or the LA Dodgers. I don’t think an American League team can compete with those power houses. And it’s obviously been a disappointment for the Dodgers to not earn a first round bye….nevertheless they have a super strong lineup and their pitching is solid. In addition to their starting pitching They have a relief pitcher Roki Sasaki who looks very strong and is back from injury. I know the Brewers have had a great year, but they have struggled mightily in the postseason in the past eight years.

Anyways I have a number of bets going for the postseason . Including the Cleveland guardians at 180-1 to win the World Series, Cincinnati Reds at 150-1 to win the World Series, LA Dodgers at about 7-1 to win the World Series, and the Boston Red Sox at 40-1 to win the World Series…. I also have a parlay bet on the New York Yankees winning the American League and the Philadelphia Phillies winning the National League for about 45-1 odds.
Phillies 4-3 over Toronto

The White Whale? had that huge OP field HR to save a playoffs series. He went from almost booing to hero instantly. That was one of the shots of all times METS history. It may have been 2-outs 2-strikes elimination kind of shot. At home? I saw it but it was long ago.

I agree 100% that Soto is one of the most talented players in the league. I’m simply providing my opinion that based on what he is getting paid, he should have at least a 300 batting average and 50 home runs if not 60.

Soto did have one of the highest on base percentages this year at 396, which is pretty good. And that is a credit to him. In 2004 Barry Bonds had an on base percentage that over 600…I know I know steroids but he was still an absolutely incredible talent and he did not get paid anything near what Soto will make.

The AL has Yankmees and RedSux head to head right off. <sinckering> Small market AL bracket will end in heartbreak. All those teams are likeable and could win it all. Not sure about that Suarez guy on SEA....something about him I remember disliking? I never followed the AL any years, so I don't know.

CIN got LA right off. UGH. SD is probably too much for CHI? Old STL manager (Schildt) knows them well. MIL is solid again? PHI could go down losing Wheeler?

Soto beat Alonso in Runs scored 120 to 87....in OBP Soto led the league with a .396 to Alonsos .347....SLG they were just about the same .525 to .524.......OPS .921 to .871...OPS+ 160 to 144....WAR 6.2 to 3.4....outside of his BA Soto had a pretty good year....Soto also led the league in walks....

When I say glorified DH, it’s basically acknowledging the people who say yes he does play right field, but he is not known for his feeling abilities. Again, that is what the critics say. I understand completely that he is not at DH.

So that term “glorified DH” is used to describe a player who is not known for their fielding abilities at least according to the critics. You may think that he’s a great fielder I don’t know.

Trout had an off year this year batting 232 injuries have plagued his career recently.
when trout is healthy the Angels are actually competitive.....i think he should retire his knee will never be right....

SHUP. $340 million dollar payroll you love trying to force CIN to compete with that? Are you crazy? You shilled for LA spending off the charts for what? One WS since 1988? Little markets do the best they can w/o just throwing money at the problem.

CIN has the manager. That is always helpful. SD has a good bullpen..... that might help. SEA has pitching and 60HR catcher.

I have the MLB package and I used to watch a lot since forever. Nowdays? I turned on a few innings of a local game a few times. I don't know what broke me so badly. So many things?

I noticed they have all four WC games on the same day tomorrow while people are at work? HUH? I guess. it always works out.
I can’t understand why the tigers Indians game is on at 1 PM. On espn as well. Well lots of youngsters will be skipping school that day.

The MLB has their reasoning I suppose. And I suppose one can say it would be unfair if one team had an extra day off to allow for more night games. But mlb probably wants the games to not be on at the same time.

That is a very fair point. It is interesting though that Alonso had more RBIs and 2x I believe the amount of doubles that Soto had.

But yes, it seems that managers and pitchers would rather face Alonso….

Bottom line for me and this is simply my opinion as we are all providing our opinions here. I don’t think Soto lived up to his contract this year that doesn’t mean he will do the same next year. For what he is getting paid I think he should have a better batting average and more home runs.

if the guy scores a 100 runs gets 40 homers drives in a 100 runs leads the league in walks and OBP has a .527 SLG and a .921 OPS a 6.3 WAR number at 26 years old....it can only get better....Soto and Alonso came to play...the Mets should concentrate on the other players who didnt come to play....
