Odds and Your pick to win the 2025 World Series?

Well, congratulations to the Cleveland “guardians”…. 11 games back of the division lead at the beginning of September and they have pulled off the greatest division comeback in baseball history winning the Al central division today.
The 1995 Seattle Mariners season was the 19th in the history of the franchise. The team finished with a regular season record of 79–66 (.545) to win their first American League West title, after having been down by as many as 13 games in early August.

The Cleveland guardians trailed the Tigers by 15 1/2 games earlier this year

.

Mariners even being in the playoffs shocks the crap out of me!

Hubby and I were huge M's fans until MLB went political in 2020, at which time I quit being a baseball fan.

Hubby, by then, was into dementia and didn't care.

Go M's, I guess.

Mets were 20 games above .500 in mid June and had the best record in Baseball. Only Alonzo was hitting.
Their pitching staff had the best ERA in Baseball and were solid top to bottom.

Their core lineup performed well but the pitching imploded the rest of the season. Senga went from Cy Young contender with a 1.50 ERA to the minor leagues by the end of the year.
The rest of the staff imploded
Mets also lost every game after trailing in the eighth inning

SHUP. $340 million dollar payroll you love trying to force CIN to compete with that? Are you crazy? You shilled for LA spending off the charts for what? One WS since 1988? Little markets do the best they can w/o just throwing money at the problem.

CIN has the manager. That is always helpful. SD has a good bullpen..... that might help. SEA has pitching and 60HR catcher.

I have the MLB package and I used to watch a lot since forever. Nowdays? I turned on a few innings of a local game a few times. I don't know what broke me so badly. So many things?

I noticed they have all four WC games on the same day tomorrow while people are at work? HUH? I guess. it always works out.

I forgot. Yes the 94' strike (caused shorter 95) sent me packing (a lifetime fan hung on every pitch, every stat) until the 2000s' I got sucked back in. Now? What happened? I literally did not watch any of it. I used to check MLB.com to see the standings, stats, boxscores, schedules. I almost forgot about MLB very suddenly again.

The Reds are modern day version of MLB Affirmative action. Just give the small market baseball team a ticket to compete with the insane payrolls of the other teams they have zero chance of beating.

Yay.

It gives one warm fuzzies inside, doesn't it?

But the 600 lb. gorilla in the room is the New York Mets who spent more money than any teams in baseball, only to implode at the end of the season.

They have to have the worst front office in all of baseball spending 700 million on Soto.

It's not rocket science, as they could easily have spent less on getting players that could bat at a 250 average or above up and down the line up. Soto I think bats a mere 269, which is good, but there is no way he is worth the money.

Now I will kindly exit this thread and let you kids talk about your big money teams like we do every year.

Who will it be, the Yankees or Dodgers?

Honestly, the suspense is killing me.

NOT!!!!!!!!!!!

Soto may have been a bad deal for the Mets. he’s only 26 so let’s see what happens there. He’s hitting slightly below his usual batting average this year and nowhere near his contract value. But in any event some people say he’s a glorified designated hitter. Another Mike Trout style disappointment?

The big question for the mets imo will be Peter Alonso. Pete had a great year hitting wise better than Soto… and he did himself a favor by signing a contract earlier this year that gave him an opt out clause after the season ends which he took and he is now a free agent. I suspect he will get big money good for him. He is 30 years old so he won’t get as long of a contract as Soto but I suspect at least $200-250 million total…as opposed to the 7 year deal the Mets offered him a few years ago, which I think was around 125 million

Would be a surprise. Especially if they get Will Smith back. They just have way too much strength in the lineup. Ohtani, Betts, Freemen , Hernandez all superstar hitters. O feel like Betts is due for a big playoff run
that doesnt matter when they won 100 plus games they choked...they are not as good as they were last year....i think Philly will beat them....

To be fair Senga was dealing with an injury,

That’s 100% possible. I think the Phillies are a very strong team with Harper and Schwarber in the lineup.

Again the dodgers might lose against the Reds. But if their lineup is on, it’s gonna be very tough to defeat them.

SOTO goofy at the plate act should be policed? Is he still doing it? Granted a few years ago I saw him? Have not paid attention since. His antics are not any good example of sportsmanshiip for young kids to see. Mike Trout had big years on a team without much help. But always injured also I suppose?

Rotten big market owners don't care. Open up the wallet. Buy me a title. Crazy stuff. These big signings almost never work out but they keep happening? Pitchers right onto Tommy John, Pujols as a weak DH.

Arizona beat them one year I think? They did not make it to PHI. And SD had them on the ropes but starting shooting off mouths and fired up LA to come back.

soto aint a DH....and how is trout a disappointment?...

15th post
soto is the best player the mets have....he aint the reason they got booted thats for sure he showed up to play....
Soto sure is a great talent … but Alonso had a better year.

The “Soto shuffle”? Yay Juan has done that a few times this year. It does look a bit weird but I guess that’s his thing.

Well as for the MLB payrolls, it is what it is. It’s allowed to happen so it’s going to happen. Every now and then though there is an upset and a small market team makes a run.

When I say glorified DH, it’s basically acknowledging the people who say yes he does play right field, but he is not known for his feeling abilities. Again, that is what the critics say. I understand completely that he is not at DH.

So that term “glorified DH” is used to describe a player who is not known for their fielding abilities at least according to the critics. You may think that he’s a great fielder I don’t know.

Trout had an off year this year batting 232 injuries have plagued his career recently.

the dodgers have won 100 games 11 times and were eliminated every time and the times they made it to the series with 100 wins they are 0-4.....dodger fans are used to the choking....

Well they won the World Series last year and in 2020. And very likely might win it this year. Who knows let’s see what happens.
