Actually, it was a way for them to make money. When they first developed these drugs, they were telling doctors that addiction to opiates was rare, even though they knew better.
And...................if you don't think it's a way to make money, consider this. Pharma companies found out that opiates make you constipated after you start using them. So, what did the Pharma companies do? They didn't find or develop a better drug than opiates, they developed a drug that would keep you from being constipated while taking opiates. Now, not only are they selling you opiates, but anti constipation pills as well. What a racket.
