I'm trying to support your thread, as far as I'm concerned, there should be 20 parallel threads running on this subject right now. I've been able to identify every communist and closet communist on this board because of it, all on my ignore list now.

I believe you present all of the information to children, teach them the difference between right and wrong, show them what having an identity means, and hope that they go in the right direction. Progressives don't want to leave this up to them. They simply feel everyone is too stupid to fend for themselves and the risk is too great that a differing viewpoint might form in the minds of the impressionable little human-beings.

Look at the eager bloodlust of the Red Guard and other examples within Communist dictatorships throughout history, then simply mention Fox News, George Bush, Sarah Palin, Clarence Thomas, et. al. here on this very forum and you can see how easily the unthinking collective anger can be manipulated (on an incredibly smaller and less dangerous scale, but the ease of conditioning is the same).

It starts with the young. 'Educate' them, draw them toward ideology and away from family and tradition, then program intensely and you've got your mob that "belongs to the community." I've personally spoken to old women who had been long ago widowed when their husbands were dragged from their homes in broad daylight, and beaten to death in the street by shockingly young kids because they had been suspected of not being ideologically pure enough. Sometimes these kids included their very own (oh sorry, I mean 'the people's').

Just like the cowardly madness of fascism or racist hysteria, it can happen, it has happened, and we laugh off the prospect of it happening again at our peril. Humans are violent animals, mostly stupid, and all too easily manipulated by the powerful and ambitious.

Children 'belong to' their own families. A positive and useful community supports and encourages those families in raising their own children; all toward the good of a society that respects the individual and recognizes the role (a role the government CANNOT usurp) in producing informed, responsible, productive individuals within that society and between other societies of the world.
