Yup, that would justify biting it off. You may want to pay attention to the story. You see, the guy that bit off the finger was IN THE FACE of the old guy and SCREAMING at him. If his hand was in his face it was to block the spittle from the Moveon.Org fellow.

I'm not convinced that Bill "Nine Finger" Rice committed a crime. By all accounts, the guy who bit him crossed the street in order to confront the man. The biter was angry and yelling and calling him names. If he felt threatened, I do believe he would have been within his rights to do something about it. There was no reason for the biter to cross the street, it's not like he was going into the mall. Why did the guy cross the street? To defend the honor of Code Pink?

Either way, you'd like to think that two grown men could find some other way to resolve their differences.

That being said, I just watched the video of the 9 fingered wonder and he said that his fist wound up in the guys mouth when he punched him. A healthcare rally came to blows when a man got out of his car and punched a 65-year-old advocate of a healthcare overhaul.

A low-key rally for healthcare reform in Miami took an unexpected turn Wednesday when a 65-year-old man was punched in the face after a heated exchange with a passerby.

Luis Perrero was among about 40 supporters of a healthcare overhaul waving signs outside a Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce meeting headlined by U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson, D-Fla., when a man in a green pickup truck stopped and began arguing with the crowd.
The roadside exchange, which began with questions about the costs of a government-run healthcare plan, quickly turned into a volley of Spanish and English curse words and insults, witnesses said.

When Perrero uttered an offensive Spanish expletive, Raul Anasagasti, who was driving the pickup, punched him in the face, knocking him to the ground. Police arrested and charged Anasagasti.

Ventura County Sheriff's Capt. Frank O'Hanlon says about 100 people demonstrating in favor of health care reforms rallied Wednesday night on a street corner. One protester walked across the street to confront about 25 counter-demonstrators.

O'Hanlon says the man got into an argument and fist fight, during which he bit off the left pinky of a 65-year-old man who opposed health care reform.

Unlike all other wealthy nations, the United States lacks universal health care. Most health insurance is obtained through employers, and almost 50 million of the 300 million Americans are without it.

Obama came to the presidency in January with almost unprecedented bipartisan popularity and strong backing for plan to make health care accessible to all Americans. But opposition has grown because of conservative attacks leading to increasingly raucus protests in recent weeks.

A hospital spokeswoman says the top joint of the man's pinky was bitten off, including the entire fingernail. It was not reattached.

She says he had Medicare, a government-run insurance for the elderly.

O'Hanlon says the attacker fled but authorities have a good description.
