Obamacare just stuck me with a $1500 bill to pay for a blood test

When I was on COBRA, there was a grace period of 30 days to pay your premium. Quite often I was late, because the insurance would still cover me during the grace period.

Now I know that under Obamacare, there is still a 30 day grace period, but any medical expenses you incur are NOT covered during the grace period.

I went to a doctor three days after the grace period started, and now I have to pay for my doctor's visit and blood test.

And obviously, it is totally ridiculous to charge me $1500 for a blood test.

Any way, I bought Obamacare through the Nevada exchange, I also got dental and optician, and life insurance.

I was very happy with my coverage and the premium right up to the time they refused to pay for my blood test.

Now, I know that Obamacare is always going to be the first bill I have to pay, because even one day late can result in financial catastrophe.

I'm lucky it was only a blood test. What if I was involved in a serious car crash, which put me in a coma. Obamacare would not pay because I was THREE FUCKING DAYS late on payment. I'd be financially ruined.

Hell, even the IRS has more mercy than that.

Blue Cross/Blue Shield. So you can't say it was a different health insurance company. The government decides who is covered and who isn't. The insurance companies are like puppets with Obama pulling the strings.

I hate to say it because I find nothing more offensive than obamacare however.
I had BC/BS for years and finally dropped them because of the constant refusals to pay for whatever reason they could find, refusals of tests etc... If a nurse coded something wrong they would deny payment.
BC/BS is known for this, and has been long before obamacare destroyed the industry.
As much as it pains me, I don't think obamacare or the regulations in obamacare can be blamed on this one. BC/BS is just doing business in the same manner they have for many years.
I switched over to Untied Health a few years back, have the same coverage as BC/BS, close to the same premium but have never had anything denied.

I've never had a problem with them.
In fact they paid over ten grand for treatment that was not covered when I had cancer surgery.
They've been nothing short of outstanding.

Even you know that you should make sure you would be covered.

The $1,500 is too high. Ask for the bill and all of the charges itemized. Negotiate.

Two weeks ago ( A Tuesday ) , I was relieved by another person on the gate I was working. I had to take a patient to the hospital from the industrial medical department; the female medical specialist.... Helping him out of the bathroom. I helped him onto the cot, as I recall he had no shirt and his pants were unzipped. He complained of being hot and itchy all over. He was speaking like he was " Far Out " and in the last stages of an " ecstasy " pill, panting with his breath, looking all around, talkative excessively. For some reason the Doctor seemed to be angry somewhat and raise his voice ( yell. ) telling me to get him to the hospital ; him standing 8 feet behind me and the two other females.....whom were trying to get an IV started . Me and the two females attending to the patient, and not the Doctor.

I wondered why - a patient who was hot all over, itchy, panting in his breath, excessively talkative and figidity.....was not being evaluated by the Doctor, but lesser licensed people.

The patient made it to the hospital in the Ambulance, with no problems.

Insurance by ambulance is much cheaper than a helicopter ride, which starts at about $7500 dollars in cost, and that is just for a short hop. A regular intra-facility transport can run about $25,000 dollars.

Sometimes a ground ambulance is cheaper for intra-facility, like from a hospital to a trauma center.....but not by much.

Medical care is......expensive .

It was a blood test. I know they're wonderful, but I'm not aware that blood tests are in and of themselves life savers.

They indicate what the problem may be.

They also don't cost $1,500, If people are going to lie, they should at least make their lies believable.

Way back, I got two refunds from BC/BS because ObamaCare mandates that at least 80% of your premium MUST go to your care.

Maybe that's what you're thinking of.

COBRA is to continue coverage you already have. You went and bought something new in the open market and apparently didn't bother activating the plan before trying to use it (did you even have an insurance card from the company at that point?).

Why on earth would you think this insurer would just start paying your medical bills for you before you paid a dime in premiums?
