We will never win a defensive war.

We will never win hoping that terrorists won't get into defensive. Sooner or later they will again. They can try 50 times, and get lucky once, and they are doing good. Time is against us.

We will never win by every now and then sending a missile from a drone, hoping we get a terrorist leader.

The only way to win is to be proactive and fight an offensive war.

We need to go where Al Qaida is, and kill them. Yeah it's messy, as Iraq and Afghanistan, have proven. We will have more casualties. However, it's the only way. We need to find their state sponsors and punish them.

What war has been won by fighting it defensively?

Either we go to them, or they come to us.

And putting our heads in the sand - again, and not fully engaging in the war, will only cause the enemy to get stronger, and be more successful in their attacks against us.

The enemy has actively engaged in the war, we need to continue to do so too.

FEMA was inadequate for the task following Andrew, an unprecedented modern disaster at the time, and blame was thrown around ad nauseum during that. It was a situation worse than anybody, including the governor of Florida, anticipated and on George H.W. Bush's watch, but it did get taken care of. No credit was given for other emergencies in which FEMA responded quite adequately, however.

Clinton was lucky that there were no major large scale disasters during his eight years that FEMA was ill equipped to handle. And he did have a good FEMA team.

FEMA was inadequate for the task following Katrina--actually it would have been unrealistic and highly criticized to have swelled and funded FEMA to handle a disaster of that magnitude that nobody anticipated. I am not excusing President George W. Bush for some really stupid decisions in the aftermath of that when he was choosing to act rather than do nothing, and the whole thing was pretty ineptly managed for a good long while. But to accuse President Bush for the deaths that occurred when he was out in front asking the governors what they needed before the hurricane hit? To accuse him is the height of mean spirited partisanship. And no credit was given during other emergencies when FEMA acted superbly.

But seriously folks, what has happened to the grown ups in this country? If you didn't have any transportation at your disposal, you had a Cat 5 hurricane bearing down on you and your family, what do you do? Huddle in a corner and whine for big government to save you? Or do you get your rear in gear and figure out some way to get your loved ones to safety? The men of a half century ago would have been out there hot wiring those busses and hauling the people out. A mayor or governor with inadequate resources to get that done would have been calling neighboring states for assistance.

For anybody to use such crises as a way to 'get' this political figure or that one or to delay action to avoid having to give credit to somebody in the 'other party' is the height of recklessness and self-serving irresponsibility. Grown ups do what they have to do to take care of things and worry about politics during elections.

People that don't evacuate mostly don't for two reasons. They've evacuated many times before for no reason. Or they'd rather stay and protect their homes...a rather misguided reason but totally human nature.

And yes, when Bush failed to follow the guidelines laid out by Homeland Security regarding the response of the Federal Government when a president declares a national emergency...he FUCKED UP and it is no one else's fault but his own.
