In the non-democratic Moslem countries Iran is one that comes to mind -- freedom of expression for other religions (Christianity, which they hate the most, but also Hinduism and Buddhism), which they perceive as their enemies, does not exist in many cases. One hundred fifty years ago, before the age of the combustion engine, Muslims would never, for example, have occupied or occasionally degraded religious buildings in some countries, where they came to seek what they did not have at home. They would not have dared, because they knew that they would have been severely punished by the authorities of the time.
Today some dare to act, to perform what we call terrorist acts, testing just how far they can go. And the public authorities, holding their fire, do not punish them. Why? Because they know that they are protected by the reigning families in the oil-producing countries on whom we are completely dependent. These families, supported by immigrants who obey them, use terror to blackmail our leaders, and corrupt them in some cases.
Thus it would be necessary to obtain another source of energy. Many have thought about this. But there are very powerful interest groups who oppose such a solution, and not only in the oil-producing countries, but also starting here at home. Go tell the shareholders of automobile manufacturers and other industrial groups that we are going to stop making cars with gas-powered engines while waiting to find vehicles that do not pollute, and the energy source that goes with them. The temperature of the Earth is rising, thousands of animal species have disappeared, and others will disappear very quickly.
And what then? I dont care what happens after Im gone, they say. I suppose that if we are not all finished by then, if some animals still remain, then in several generations, when one asks the remote descendents of representatives of the Green political parties why their political ancestors with similar leanings did not protest against this massacre, but resisted so strongly against incipient and credible competition (I am referring to nuclear energy), they will state the simple truth. The elected officials who preceded us did not protest because people asked them not to, but to remain silent. In order not to overshadow these powerful special interest groups, we sacrificed future research and projects, with enormous sums invested and a very high level of knowledge, lost, buried forever (such as the Super-Phenix project in France), voluntarily postponed them. If we needed to find funding to manufacture a new, more complicated and more powerful atomic bomb, the funding would have been found.
It is also known that a new technology, nuclear fusion, offers serious hopes for providing unlimited energy and solves the problem of nuclear waste. But our leaders are in no hurry.
Then IT WOULD BE NECESSARY TO KNOW WHAT ONE WANTS, or stop endlessly complaining about Islamic terrorism in this case. As long as we depend on their liquid (the same one found under their feet), we will be dependent on them.
