If I were to draw a parallel, it would be 2004. Bush managed to fear-monger his way into a second term he in no way deserved. By 2005, his name was mud, followed by Crushing Defeats in 2006 and 2008.

Reminds me of the story of the woman who found a snake frozen in the snow so she took it in, cared for it, and kept it warm. Well I have some really nice friends and family who are democrats but yes, for the most part unfortunately that's true.

Trump got 73 million and maybe 50%.
