Pokemon GO got more American kids off the sofa in 4 days than Michelle Obama’s 7 years of haranguing - Hot Air

Pokemon GO just accomplished the impossible: It got my kid to voluntarily go for a 3 mile walk! More on that miracle in a moment, let’s first have a teachable moment on the free market versus failed government programs.

After nearly seven years of whining, cajoling and haranguing from the First Lady and her “
Let’s Move” program, American kids are just as obese as ever. According to a study highlighted by the Daily Caller, kids have pretty much ignored Michelle Obama’s command to get up and move:

According to the new study, in 1999-2000 (NHANES’ surveys are conducted in 2-year cycles), 27.5 percent of all youth between 2 and 19 years old were considered overweight. That increased to 31.8 percent in the 2011-2012 study and 33.2 percent in the 2013-2014 cohort.

:lmao:

Anger as Pokemon Go players target Hiroshima memorial park
Thursday 28th July, 2016 - Authorities in Hiroshima have asked the game developer behind Pokemon Go to take action as players descend on the city's atomic bomb memorial park.
They have asked Niantic to remove "Pokestops" and other virtual sites that show up in the park for those playing the augmented-reality game. The western Japanese city wants them deleted by August 6, the anniversary of the 1945 bombing and the date of an annual ceremony to remember the victims. Niantic declined to comment, saying it would not make public any discussions with a third party.

The expansive Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park is meant as a solemn memorial to the victims, but it has become a draw for players since the Japanese release of the addictive smartphone game last Friday. Elsewhere, the US Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington DC and nearby Arlington National Cemetery have made similar requests to Niantic.

Holocaust museum spokesman Andrew Hollinger said on Wednesday that the museum had been removed from the game according to its wishes. Niantic offers a form to request exclusions, but it is neither automatic nor guaranteed. The location-aware app gives digital rewards for visiting real places that have been designated Pokestops and Gyms in the game.

Repubs are on all sides of every issue. They cry when Michelle says eat healthy and move. Then they whine that their kids are fat asses. Complain about getting out and moving then applaude kids staring at a phone screen walking around like zombies.

Good job. Maybe you guys can open up a Pokemon Gym and show Michelle how its done.

Star Japanese gymnast runs up huge Pokemon Go phone bill in Rio
Thursday 4th August, 2016 - Japanese Olympic gymnast Kohei Uchimura has run up a huge roaming bill in Rio playing Pokemon Go.
The record six-time world champion was stunned to receive a 500,000 yen (£3,700) mobile phone bill after playing the popular augmented-reality game, Kyodo news agency said. Thankfully for him, his Japanese carrier service agreed to reduce his bill to a 3,000 yen (£22) daily all-you-can-use contract, Kyodo said.
