Mary Landrieu: I'll Punch Bush, 'Literally'

Sen. Mary Landrieu threatened the president of the United States with physical violence on Sunday, saying that if he or any other government official criticizes New Orleans police for failing to keep civil order in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina - "I might likely have to punch him - literally."

"If one person criticizes [our sheriffs], or says one more thing, including the president of the United States, he will hear from me - one more word about it after this show airs and I - I might likely have to punch him - literally," Landrieu railed on "ABC's "This Week."

It is illegal to threaten the president with physical violence.

The Louisiana Democrat blasted Bush for neglecting the New Orleans levees, and demanded that he stop using the disaster for "photo-ops."

"The president came here yesterday for a photo-op," Landrieu charged, while surveying the disaster scene via helicopter with "This Week" host George Stephanopoulos in tow. "He got his photo-op but we are never going to get this fixed if he does not send us help now."

Landrieu also blamed Bush for cutting funding for levee improvement, before bursting into tears on camera.

In recent days, Louisiana officials have been criticized for bungling evacuation and rescue efforts. One of those officials, Lt. Gov. Mitch Landrieu, is Sen. Landrieu's brother.

Amazing how these dem politicians feel they must be considered blameless. Screw them and their arrogance. They were the first line of defense, and they did horribly. Blame where it's due is anathema to the dems.

I'm sick of the shit.

Left: It's Bush's fault. He wouldn't support the Kyoto Protocal nor upgrade the levees. Where's Bush with my handout?

Right: Shit happened. Let's deal with it.

They DID! WTF part of this don't these MORONS!!! understand? Fact is they DO KNOW!

Like I said in another thread last week (or maybe even yesterday)...Bush is THE target, plain and simple. It's all politics for many of these people. It's a damn shame! The worse National disaster in the Countries history, and instead of coming together to
fix things, save people and get on with life, these people just want to destroy someone. It plain sick...I for one am NOT going to stand-by and let these idiots keep blowing smoke up everyones ass.

Let's see...Mary and Mitch Landrieu of Louisiana for starters...Nepotism breeds corruption IMO...this is what we are witnessing in New Orleans total
failure to deal with this problem in the first place...they have received their just reward for decades of decadence...!!! :dev2: :boobies:

Darn tootin', Gunny!

the federal and state efforts where a failure to relieve the trapped
citizens. The National Guard should have been in the streets from day 2.

I dont know who exactly is to blame but I hope the governor of the state
and the head of Fema loose their job over this debacle.

Bush looked like shit in all this too. A disaster of this magnitude and
he run his usual hands off managing approach. Sure he cant do
much but he can pressure officials to act. Where was the water and
food?

If you let political responsibility slide the next person in office
will be not more inclinded to show a top performance.

Bush already run his last election so it doesnt matter what the outcome
of an investigation is.

Giving his administration a free pass on all of this is just foolish on your part.

I would be pissed if I had to wait 5 friggin days for help anywhere.

there is no way to evacuate a city of this size to begin with.
I worked in flood rescue in Germany as part of the village voluntary
firefighters.

Once people are trapped you go out and rescue them. Blaming them for
being there doesnt get anything done.

The Us performance outside the US was faster then in the New Orleans
debacle it seems.

You want to blame the victims . wow.

Hey . WOw. Why do the local authorities only want to blame bush? They need to accept their own failures as well and quit politicizing this thing. If New Orleans hadn't created so many government dependant donothings, they would not be in the problems their in. Donothings do nothing. They've forgotten how. Look at the results. "I'll just stay in my flooded home until the government, gives me a golden invitation to save myself."

Like hell there's not.. Do you have any idea how many people left in the week long build up? Do you have any idea how many more left on those busses, in vans, on feet, bicycles, and anything else they could get their hands on?

THEN, the jackasses that are left there have the fucking NERVE to shoot at the same people trying to come and haul their asses out?

Bullshit.

You say I want to blame the victims.. In a way, I suppose you're right. But, it makes more sense than those you're blaming.

You cannot reasonably blame the US Government. It is not (nor should it
be) their responsibility to hold everyone's hand as they cross the
street, send special agents to every child each morning to strap on
bicycle helmets and knee pads for their ride to school, and pour money
out to buy homes and food and care for everyone so it's constituents
don't have to exercise any self-control or will of their own.

You can only blame the people who moved there, stayed there, and did
nothing in their time there to adequately protect themselves from a
known situation. Insufficient levy's built of necessity out of inferior
materials to protect a dry lake bed on the gulf coast so people could
continue to build houses there. They can't build sound foundations,
everything is sodden and damp and decaying, but let's move out there
anyways. After all, the Government has to keep us safe. Idiots.

the local authorities are desperate, so in a crisis like that
I am not surprised they cant handle it themselves.

Its not about Bush per se its about the federal response being
rather slow and ineffective in the aftermath.
The state has no done well either. The failure of their dyke system
and the local failures will be reviewed too.

I just believe that you need to hold leaders on all three levels responsible
to be ensure next time a more effective system rushed out to US citizens
help when a major catastrophe occurs.

In the end Bush wont be blamed for all of that, but some pressure on
him will ensure he cleans up the federal agencies so they act more
efficient next time.

To give out the clean bill of health before an investigation seems unwise
to me.

the lawlessness can be blamed mostly on the state response. THe US
states have the national guard for exactly problems like this to uphold
the law when the local communities, police/firefighters emergency crews
are overwelmed. The old and disabled you saw in some of the pictures
are hardly to blame. Should people react to warnings , yes, do some
for varies reason always decide to stay . yes. Thats when you
have to rescue them.

At least thats what we used to do. Its a hard job and I dont blame
the rescuers for being late, but obviously something with in the
rescue organization did not work out at all. This poor planning should
lead to a purge of people who failed to do their job right.

Because of political partisanship neither dems or reps should get a free
pass. I was surprised that with the new homeland defense system
in place still coordination seemed to be a mess.

Looting can only occur when you dont have enough law enforcement in
place. Maybe we cant agree on the federal level of responsibilites but
it seems obvious the state level was really messed up.

Nepotism and corruption seems to be the story of New Orleans politics, as far as I can discern from my reading this past week. By the way, the Landrieus dad was a one-time mayor of New Orleans.

Early in the week, I was pretty impressed with Sen. Landrieu's fight to keep the response to the disaster from becoming political in nature. That's when she thought the blame would be placed where it belonged--on the Mayor of New Orleans and the Governor of Louisiana, who are both Democrats.

In the interim, she had learned that the blame could be transferred to President Bush and his Administration, so, like the good little Democrat that she is, that's why she turned on her tears on "This Week" and decried the help that the Bush Administration had given.

From what I saw following the TV coverage last week, it was not until the Federal Government entered the picture that ANYTHING got done.

The lawlessness can blamed on the thugs shooting at rescuers and looting, who evidently may have been incited to Lawlessness by the nation of islam.

The security chief for Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan has been hired to provide sensitivity training for the NOPD. Captain Dennis Muhammad has conducted sensitivity training in other cities such as Buffalo and will be paid $15,000 for his services, which NOPD Chief Eddie Compass says are needed in New Orleans. Compass says there are people in New Orleans who have complained about police treatment and are “anti police.” Compass believes that the “members of the Nation of Islam have some type of relationship with these people.”

They have cried wolf for so long that perversion has taken over this historical city...now they must face their image in the mirror!

I'm afraid the entire left constituency has been brainwashed into believing that nothing bad can possibly happen to them. NOTHING. When it does, it is obviously someone elses fault. Someone OTHER than a democratic because democrats are the party that actually cares about the little guy.

If you are a neo-liberal you must

1 Vote democratic.
2 If the democrat doesn't win you must voice you opinion and your opinion
must be that the republicans stole the election.
3 Get a lawyer and sue someone everytime something bad happens to you
4 Blame the election stealing republicans for everything that you cant sue
for.
5 Oppose everything that the republicans propose becuase everything they
want to do ( including the war on terror ) is taking money out of your
pocket. That money should all be spent on you.
6 Scream everytime something that you think is bad is happening and make
a big scene. ( Don't do anything about it yourself because the republicans
will take credit for it )

7. Repeat 1-6 over and over again---even if it doesn't work.

Sadly, some of the victims were children, elderly, handicap, mentally ill etc. No one was looking out for these people and I wouldn't blame them.
