TSA was created to serve a function that no longer exists. The sort of strategies that worked on 9/11 manifestly will not work today. It would literally be funny to see someone try to hijack a commercial airliner with a box cutter today. The MoFo would be torn to shreds by the passengers.
There are risks that cannot be ENTIRELY eliminated in a world where terrorists are willing to die to accomplish their nefarious ends, but the airlines are much better situated to mitigate these risks than are an army of marginally-qualified Federal employees.
TSA should be disbanded although the truism remains apropos: Nothing is so permanent as a temporary government program.
The danger is that once TSA is gone other pointless programs might follow. Horrors! Next thing you know, Operation Headstart!
Terrific parody.
And oh so true.
Today we learned that at most airports which use TSA, more TSA employees work full-time on union matters than on security.
