Not just the rejection of truth, punishment for the truth tellers.

I've read a few articles positing the length of time it has taken to reach a ruling suggests the conservatives have once again bent over backwards to come up with something not as unfavorable to trump as the law implies it should.

That once venerable institution is lost to extreme right wing hackery for a generation.

My bet is they have been struggling to find a way to rule that Trump can't willy nilly enact tariff's without making him pay them back.

The president has the power to force any nation who wants to export to us must buy a license. Same thing as a tariff.

If you're a public figure who disagrees with Putin "falling" out a window must be close to being the primary cause of death.
Another step that's even closer.........................

1 day ago — Let's start with some good news: Donald Trump's efforts to jail his Democratic enemies have thus far mostly been marked by ham-fisted, buffoonish failure.

Trump’s efforts to indict those six Democrats, who all spoke in a video posted late last year that warned military service members and officials against carrying out illegal orders.
After that video was posted, Trump raged that they were “traitors” who should be “ARRESTED AND PUT ON TRIAL,” leading the FBI to reach out to the lawmakers to set up interviews.

Very possible. It's going to be interesting to see what the market reaction is, no matter what they decide. Getting rid of tariffs is good for inflation but bad for the deficit.

The tariff studies put a huge problem front and center. That being, the regime's steadfast refusal to accept facts that are in opposition of its beliefs. The same is true for trumples.

It is but an anecdotal example of a larger problem. We are currently not being governed according to fact based information.

It's authoritarian governance 101.

The problem for the Trump admin is that other studies and entire industries support that report.

Remember farmers?

Small furniture retailers face existential tariff threat, regardless of Supreme Court ruling

Reality is a constant thorn in the side of the regime. So it relies on denial.

And given the lack of rigor that’s gone into preparing Trump’s tariff regime, it’s particularly galling that Hassett would try to dunk so hard on this research. Let’s not forget that the supposedly “reciprocal tariffs” rolled out on Trump’s “Day of Liberation” last April were based on the most bafflingly basic formula possible, hidden behind a slew of Greek letters to make it look respectable. It was so hastily considered that nobody stepped forward to claim credit for it, even after the initial set of tariffs were put on pause.

Reality is dawning on the MAGA politicians though. They are panicking. Random wars with Iran and whoever else will not help.

White House eyes punishments for economists who told the truth about tariffs, consumers

Donald Trump’s top economist didn’t just disagree with consensus economic research, he also suggested he wants to see researchers “disciplined.”

Throughout his second term, Donald Trump has heard economists tell him that American consumers will end up shouldering the increased costs associated with his trade tariffs. The president has consistently rejected those analyses, despite everything we know about Economics 101.

Unfortunately for the White House, almost a year after Trump advanced his tariffs agenda, experts have scrutinized the evidence and concluded that their predictions were correct. From the Congressional Budget Office to international scholars to the National Bureau of Economic Research, all of the available data points in the same direction: American consumers, not foreign companies, are paying more as a result of the Republican president’s policy.

Last week, still more evidence emerged. Research published by economists at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York and Columbia University found that, through last fall, 90% of the economic burden from Trump’s tariffs fell on Americans, not foreigners.

The findings didn’t generate a ton of headlines or national discussion, which was understandable. After all, the economists and researchers had simply found evidence that proved what we already knew. That said, the reports made reality clear, in case there were any lingering doubts.

The trouble is, Team Trump doesn’t want economists and researchers to make reality clear.

Economists of all stripes have been naughty boys and girls. For nothing upsets the regime like advertising the facts when they run counter to its narrative. Most especially on Don's signature economic policy. The one he keeps pointing to as raking in a ton of cash.

He, and folks like the dutifully loyal Kevin Hassett, would rather we consumers not know where that cash is coming from. Our wallets. Tariffs equate to a tax on consumption. But don't try to tell Don that. He'll look at you as though you told him he lost the 2020 election. Or climate change is real. Or this isn't the greatest economy known to man. Or vaccines, not disinfectant, are the best way to combat a pandemic.
No one denies that importers pay the tariff

Libs are beating a straw man that is already dead

Taxes on producers raise costs to consumers?

In reality yes. Companies are going to pass on expenditures to maintain profits

The daffy left hasn't quite grasped it yet. A perfect example is California gas prices , they pay around 61 cents per gallon in taxes and the result is around a 4.80 price per gallon of gas

I paid 2.60 a gallon yesterday. It's not just gas prices, it's every expenditure created by government taxes and regulations

Or, driving oil companies out of california raises the price of gasoline for consumers

But the left is so clueless they do it anyway

Remember when we refused the “fact” that tariffs would cause massive inflation?

Paul Krugman released a related video on the subject, making a compelling case that Hassett’s call to discipline economists was “thuggish.” Krugman added, “That’s incredible. That’s like saying, ‘If you carefully study the data and come up with results that we in the Trump administration don’t like, we will punish you personally — or we will try to.”

As unlikely as it is, I am eagerly awaiting the day when a certified trump devotee puts partisanship aside and admits tariffs are not the panacea trump claims them to be and the regime shouldn't be contemplating punishment for those who say so.

But what is more likely is trumpers will avoid this thread.

No "economist" has been more wrong more often than Krugman.

The echo chamber cares not.
