CHESNEE, SC (WYFF) - A former employee of an Upstate funeral home tried to ambush employees Thursday morning, but his AR-15 jammed and the only shot fired missed, the sheriff says.

Spartanburg County Sheriff Chuck Wright said the former employee, later identified Gregory Scott Greene, 51, worked at Eggers Funeral Home in Chesnee until he quit about a month ago.

Wright said Greene had a duplicate key made before he turned his key back in to the business.

Wright said Greene went to the funeral home just before 9 a.m., turned off the alarm and waited for other employees to come to work.

Ummm, if you're going to commit mass murder make sure your weapon is clean and buy quality ammo?

Well ya gotta admire the guy's sense of efficiency, staking out a funeral home. Saves transportation.

The irony here is, while normal people will see this as a happy non-event, the gun fetishists will see a tragedy where poor Almighty Gun ignominiously failed. Oh the shame. They'll be out in the garage about now cleaning and reloading everything, taking practice shots at trash cans on the street. Just to make sure such a horrific faux pas isn't in their future.

They will do that when you use poor ammo. Check and I will bet it was made in China... or some other Nation....Don't by a cheap ammo for American made weapons.

Always good advice, regardless or your objective.

I should add if you get the wrong ammo loaded with ball powder the 15 type will gum up fast. Happen in Nam until they changed type type of powder to stick type. Really never like the rifle The M 14 was good and used the 308 ..
