To pay into social security, you have to have a social security number. Illegals do not have one unless it is fake or stolen.

A long time ago I used to claim on W-4 more dependents then when filing taxes you claim the real number. By claiming more on W-4 less taxes are taken out of each paycheck. Draw back is you might screw up at tax time when claiming the real number and owe money to IRS.

Did you read the article? I don't know how it's possible but they can still get deported.

I guess it was about 20 years ago I had a large group health client and the superintendent of construction company I helped fill out the application in place of SSN put in a number (at that time I didn't know it existed) and I said what is that? He explained it was ITIN and after I asked a few questions he said he did receive a refund each year. At that time he also admitted his green card had expired a year before and he was just too busy to renew. Never knew what happened to him after that.

The tipping culture has gone insane. It’s like “here’s the price of what you bought” and then “and how much more would you like to pay for it”?

Take Panera. A visit there is entirely self-service. You first wait on line (sometimes long at lunchtime) to place your order, then you get a buzzer, then you go to where the drinks station is and fill your own drink, then you wait for the buzzer and walk to a new counter to pick it up and take your food to the table, and then after you eat you need to take your food to the trash, separating recycling from garbage.

And they want a tip for that?

You mean like in a Tip Jar? I don't see a problem with that. Tip or don't tip, your call. But those people are often getting paid next to nothing. If you don't want to tip, don't. If you don't think they keep the place clean enough, if they aren't somewhat attentive, just don't tip. I don't think they'll look at you sideways.
