The tipping culture has gone insane. It’s like “here’s the price of what you bought” and then “and how much more would you like to pay for it”?
Take Panera. A visit there is entirely self-service. You first wait on line (sometimes long at lunchtime) to place your order, then you get a buzzer, then you go to where the drinks station is and fill your own drink, then you wait for the buzzer and walk to a new counter to pick it up and take your food to the table, and then after you eat you need to take your food to the trash, separating recycling from garbage.
And they want a tip for that?
